Is Twilight Being Eclipsed By The Hunger Games?

With only a month until the release, THE HUNGER GAMES seem to already be shadowing THE TWILIGHT SAGA in first-day advance ticket sales.

Fandango, a US online ticket merchant, reports that hundreds of first-day showings of THE HUNGER GAMES have already sold out. They also report that the film has broken the record for the number of first-day advance tickets sold, which was originally held by THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, from 14th May 2010. Cinemas are also continually adding more time slots for the film, which already has a huge fan base thanks to the original novel, written by Suzanne Collins.

Rick Butler, of EVP/General Manager of Fandango says, ‘THE HUNGER GAMES is off to a fantastic start. Yesterday we saw the biggest first day advance ticketing sales in our company’s nearly 12-year history – which is especially impressive for a March release and a non-sequel.’

If sales continue to rise, this could be one of the best-selling adaptations ever. But will it really eclipse TWILIGHT? Whose fan base will win? THE TWILIGHT SAGA only has BREAKING DAWN: PART 2 left for release, whereas THE GAMES is part of a trilogy and the sequel is due for release in 2013, giving enough time for more people to be drawn in. Will it come anywhere close to the numbers from HARRY POTTER? We’ll have to wait and see.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
