Red Sequel Has A Director

2010 action-comedy RED was a breath of fresh air for an already-tired genre, with the likes of Bruce Willis, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren playing it firmly, tongue-in-cheek. Director Robert Schwentke has gone on to helm the supernatural action-thriller R.I.P.D.,with Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Bacon. This has left fans of Schwentke’s RED wondering just who would take over the much mooted sequel.

Step forward Dean Parisot; the man responsible for the brilliant sci-fi-comedy GALAXY QUEST. The Hollywood Reporter has learned Parisot, who last directed Jim Carrey in the 2005 remake of FUN WITH DICK AND JANE, will take charge of RED 2. Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman are expected to return for the sequel, with Eric and Jon Hoeber also returning to screenwriting duties, from the first film.

Parisot may not have directed a feature film in over seven-years, but he has worked on episodes of some of the top US television hits such as THE GOOD WIFE, MODERN FAMILY, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM and my own favourite show right now, JUSTIFIED.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
