Woody Allen was the star winner of Sunday night’s Writers Guild Awards, picking up the original screenplay prize for his melancholic comedy MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, while adapted screenplay went to Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, for their well-written revision of the Kaui Hart Hemmings book THE DESCENDANTS.
The award for documentary screenplay went to Katie Galloway and Kelly Duane de la Vega for their dramatic portrayal of idealism and crime in BETTER THIS WORLD.
In television it was a night of duo awards, as MODERN FAMILY picked up the awards for best comedy and best comedy episode, HOMELAND for new series and a tie for episodic drama and BREAKING BAD, sharing in the tie for episodic drama and winning drama series.
Handed out simultaneously in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium and in New York at the B.B. King Blues Club, the Writers Guild awards also included TV and new media writing. Here is a closer look at the night’s winners:
