Robert Rodriguez looks to be moving forward with a sequel to his Danny Trejo-led exploitation hit MACHETE. The character originated from a mock trailer that was inserted between Rodriguez and Tarantino’s experimental flop GRINDHOUSE (released in the UK as the separate features PLANET TERROR and DEATH PROOF, minus the fun set of trailers). Rodriguez managed to assemble quite a peculiar cast for the full length feature MACHETE, with the likes of Robert De Niro, Steven Seagal, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez and Lindsay Lohan, joining Trejo.
The sequel, currently entitled MACHETE KILLS, will see Trejo return along with a number of the surviving characters from the first film (although they can’t be many after the outlandish bloody climax). MACHETE KILLS will see the Mexican hardman recruited by the US government to take out a drug cartel run by a billionaire arms dealer, with plans for world domination; aided by a super weapon in space. Rodriguez is aiming to begin shooting the new sequel in April. The director himself commented:-
The fan response to the Machete character has been fanatical since his first appearance. Machete is truly a super hero and Machete Kills will be bigger and more ambitious than the first time.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

After the mental combination of DeNiro, Seagal and Johnson in part one may I suggest Pacino, Van Damme and Larry Hagman for part 2? It would be all kinds of awesome; even if they all have to be cast as Mexicans!!!
