HOSTEL, GRINDHOUSE and LAST EXORCISM mastermind Eli Roth is currently negotiating his next film, AFTERSHOCK, which he will produce as well as take a leading role.
Roth places us on a secluded island in the midst of an earthquake and resulting asylum prison break. Drawing from a personal encounter with the earthquake which devastated Chile in 2010, Roth promises this experience to be ‘very scary, very intense and very real.’
To assure this, Chilean star Nicolas Lopez will appear alongside Roth and contribute to the scripting and directing in his first English production. With Roth’s recent LAST EXORCISM taking $70 million internationally and Lopez’s last two films (QUE PENA TU VIDA and QUE PENA TU BODA) grossing highest among all Chilean films of 2010 and 2011, AFTERSHOCK has no issue shaking up some industry interest. Already, major distributors like Weinstein and Relativity Media are brokering their offers with a deal most likely to be made soon, much like Roth’s previous sucess with small budget thrillers.
