With a release date of 23rd March, fans of THE HUNGER GAMES novel trilogy are sure to be very excited – and Lionsgate have just given them another reason to be. Below is the brand new trailer for the upcoming film, based on Suzanne Collins’ series.
Gary Ross, the director behind SEABISCUIT (2003), takes the reigns in this film which is based on the first book. Jennifer Lawrence stars as Katniss Everdeen, a sixteen year old girl who volunteers herself to be part of the Games, which take place each year in the ruins of what once was North America. This morbid set of trials are televised as a type of government intimidation and control, and the ‘Tributes’ (the contenders) have to fight one another until only one survives.
Inexperienced Katniss must use her instincts and mentoring from former victor Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson) against Tributes who have been training for the event their whole lives – and only if she succeeds is she permitted to go home.
The all-star cast also includes Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, Wes Bentley as Seneca Crane, Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, Alexander Ludwig as Cato, Isabelle Fuhrman as Clove and Donald Sutherland as President Snow, as well as many more.
Although Miss Lawrence has starred in such films as WINTER’S BONE and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, I’m sure leading this cast will send her right into the public eye.
THE HUNGER GAMES is set for release 23rd March 2012.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
