Amell To Be Arrow

Stephen Amell (90210, VAMPIRE DIARIES) has landed the much sought after lead in CW’s new pilot ARROW, an updated adaptation of DC comics’ superhero The Green Arrow.

Ostensibly a reworked version of Robin Hood (right down to the green hat), The Green Arrow is one of the lesser known DC heroes. Despite being a member of The Justice League and appearing in the show SMALLVILLE, his star has never risen to mainstream success outside of the comic book world. But the CW network are hoping to change all that with their new show. The character breakdown goes thusly:

A 27 year old reformed bad boy, who after having spent five years shipwrecked on a tiny, brutally dangerous island in theSouth China Sea, returns to town a different man. Or to be more specific, a tortured, thoughtful master of the bow with a ferocious determination to make a difference.

Think BATMAN BEGINS, but if Bruce Wayne was scared of Robin Hood instead of bats, then made that his thing. Maybe not as intimidating, but could still be a hoot.

The pilot is to be written by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and will be directed by David Nutter, who helmed the pilots for SMALLVILLE, DARK ANGEL and TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES among others. Here’s hoping this follows in their success and doesn’t ‘do a Wonder Woman.’ *shudder*
