One In, One Out For Porn Biopic Lovelace

Okay, maybe not the most original title for a casting update surrounding a porn-star biopic, but it appears there is movement on the Amanda Seyfried-starring, LOVELACE. Joining the cast is the acclaimed ZODIAC and BIG LOVE actress Chloe Sevigny. Sevigny is no stranger to controversial subjects. After making her acting debut in Larry Clark’s notorious teen-sex drama KIDS, the actress also featured in BOYS DON’T CRY, AMERICAN PSYCHO and THE BROWN BUNNY. The film will re-unite her with her BOYS DON’T CRY co-star Peter Sarsgaard, where she will portray a journalist, writing an article about the late porn actress.

On the other-hand, leaving the project is Demi Moore, who was set to star as the legendary feminist figure Gloria Steinem. There is currently no word yet who will replace Moore in the currently-shooting life story. LOVELACE is directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffery Friedman and has an already superb cast that includes James Franco, Sharon Stone, Hank Azaria, Adam Brody and Robert Patrick.

Previous porn-set features have been made into some terrific films, the stand-out being Paul Thomas Anderson’s BOOGIE NIGHTS, a semi-biographical tale of the infamous John Holmes. An almost forgotten but brilliant portrayal of Holmes’ was given by Val Kilmer in 2003’s WONDERLAND. That film centred on a desperate Holmes’ alleged involvement with a local crime boss, that eventually lead to the grisly murders on Wonderland Avenue. WONDERLAND had the unique style of giving each central character their own version of events, leaving the viewer to make up their own mind of what occurred, by piecing together their own interpretation. A clever and intriguing film that is as tragic, as it is fascinating.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
