Warning: this post contains potentially major spoilers, should they turn out to be true. So for those of you who want to keep things a little more surprising when THE AVENGERS opens on 4th May, look away now.
Jenny Agutter (LOGAN’S RUN) has seemingly let slip about a rather huge superhero cameo. Agutter plays a council member in the upcoming movie, and while speaking to The Radio Times, gave away this corker:
I’m sworn to secrecy. I wasn’t allowed a script until I got there, and when I did I felt like a complete child being on big sets and a huge parking lot full of Winnebagos.
Not such huge news on its own, of course. But the actress went on to say that one of these Winnebagos was for Iron Man, and one was for… Spider-Man.
Of course, Agutter could easily have made a mistake, but if she hasn’t, then Marvel and Sony Pictures (who own the rights to the Spider-Man films) will have had to come to an agreement for the cameo. It also raises the question of who would play Spidey, should he make an appearance – would Sony want to show off Andrew Garfield, suit-and-all, before we see how he gets there in this summer’s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN?
It’s true that Spider-Man is part of The Avengers in the comics. So maybe we’re in for a big surprise come May. We’ll just have to wait and find out.
THE AVENGERS is directed by Joss Whedon and stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Robert Downey Jr. It is released in cinemas on 4th May 2012.

Chris started life by almost drowning in a lake, which pretty much sums up how things have gone so far. He recently graduated in Journalism from City University and is actually a journalist and everything now (currently working as Sports Editor at The News Hub). You can find him on Twitter under the ingenious moniker of @chriswharfe.
