Kevin Feige Discusses The Avengers Villain

Marvel’s own Kevin Feige, producer of this year’s THE AVENGERS, has let slip a few details about the film’s hitherto mysterious enemy – though don’t expect a thorough demystification. You’ll have to wait until May for that.

We already know Loki’s back from last year’s THOR movie – but a completely new threat will emerge in the upcoming superhero flick; one so huge that Nick Fury, again played by Samuel L Jackson (who had cameos as Fury in previous Marvel films such as THOR and IRON MAN), has to assemble the likes of Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Iron Man to tackle it.

Until now we’ve heard little about this mysterious enemy – but now, thanks to one ‘herolee10’, we have this quote from Empire:

“Who said they were aliens?” [Feige] teases. Beings from the Nine Realms, then, ventures Empire? “Closer…It’s not Skrulls, I’ve been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we’re not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that.”

Feige also addresses the rumour that Red Skull, antagonist of 2011’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, will return in THE AVENGERS:

“Was Skull vaporised at the end of the movie, or thrust into another realm?” asks Feige. “That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he’s not in this one.” Whedon though is a little more circumspect when Empire confronts him. “I do have a comment on that,” he says, before pulling a move worthy of Loki himself. “It’s…oh, you’re breaking up!”

Though Feige claims the identity of the race is not important, what it is capable of will still remain to be seen. And director Joss Whedon’s tease of Red Skull might mean Feige isn’t being entirely truthful…

THE AVENGERS is released in cinemas on 4th May 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston.

He recently graduated in Journalism from City University and is actually a journalist and everything now (currently working as Sports Editor at The News Hub). You can find him on Twitter under the ingenious moniker of @chriswharfe.
