Oh, M. Night Shyamalan, it all started so well with the THE SIXTH SENSE, following it up with clever comic-book-influenced UNBREAKABLE and hey, even SIGNS wasn’t too bad at all. Since then? Not so great but he keeps on working away when everything is seemingly against him, so in some obscure way, you’ve got to give him credit.
This morning sees the release of some pre-production photographs from AFTER EARTH. It’s set to star Will Smith alongside young son, Jaden and Isabelle Fuhrman (ORPHAN) has also been confirmed. The film is set 1,000 years into the future and follows a young boy who ends up on an abandoned and treacherous Earth after his ship crashes with his estranged father. They will – probably – face various trials and tribulations but will it see the re-launch of his career critically? At this stage it’s too early to tell as it’s not due until release in the summer of 2013.
Written by M. Night Shyamalan, it has some interesting writers aboard with Gary Whitta (THE BOOK OF ELI) and Stephen Gaghan (TRAFFIC). AFTER EARTH will begin filming in March. But in the meantime, here’s some shots. Also, if you click on the photographs, you’ll get some additional descriptions from the man himself:
