One of US television’s favourite directors, Alan Taylor, is reportedly set to direct THOR 2. Taylor, who has directed shows sch as GAMES OF THRONES, BOARDWALK EMPIRE, and NURSE JACKIE will replace Patty Jenkins, who walked away from the project after creative differences with Marvel Studios.
Such directorial difficulties rarely bodes well for a movie, but Marvel Studios have been relatively consistent so far, and one would expect them to follow up THE AVENGERS – released summer 2012 – with another spandex-clad barnstormer.
The first THOR, directed by Kenneth Brannagh and starring Chris Hemsworth, raked in almost $450 million worldwide, proving one of the surprise hits of 2011. Here’s hoping that Taylor can follow this up and maintain Marvel’s track record so far (assuming THE AVENGERS does the trick beforehand)…
THOR 2 is set for release November 2012.
THE AVENGERS is directed by Joss Whedon and stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlet Johanssen and Samuel L. Jackson. It arrives in cinemas April 2012.
