Austin Powers Prequel Coming To The Stage
A musical prequel to the AUSTIN POWERS trilogy is coming to the stage. No, I never thought I’d see those words in the same sentence either.
A surprisingly credible team are heading the venture, with Austin Powers himself, Mike Myers, set to write the stage adaptation and work alongside THE BOOK OF MORMON co-director Casey Nicholaw. Ex-HBO Films president Colin Callender — who brought us the critically acclaimed BAND OF BROTHERS and ANGELS IN AMERICA — is set to produce with partner Sonia Friedman.
The musical, which will likely include songs from the original films, is primarily set to the music of Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach. The pair made a cameo appearance in AUSTIN POWERS: THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME in which they performed I’ll Never Fall In Love Again. The story is set to tell how Powers first attained his infamous ‘mojo’.
Unfortunately, Myers won’t be appearing on the stage himself but is said to be working on a fourth Austin Powers movie. Groovy baby, etc etc…
