Academy Announces The 15 Films Vying For Visual Effects Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts Sciences have today given a list of the contenders that are competing in the first round of selection for the 84th Academy Awards visual effects Oscar. The usual box-office behemoths are there all with their studios hoping that their film will get enough votes to pass through to the next stage of the process. Take a look and see if you agree with their selection and maybe one of your favourites from this year are amongst them.

Captain America: The First Avenger
Cowboys & Aliens
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
Hugo
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Real Steel
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
Sucker Punch
Super 8
Thor
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
The Tree of Life
X-Men: First Class

These films will be then be whittled down to ten, and then eventually to five a few weeks before the ceremony on the 26th February 2012.
