Marti Noxon, one of the most prolific and respected screenwriters in television, is to work on the script for OUIJA, it has been announced. Platinum Dunes, known mainly for their horror output, will be producing (what they are referring to as) a family adventure movie in the mold of THE MUMMY (1999), so we can expect a fast paced caper with a dash of terror.
Noxon is no stranger to accessible horror, as she cut her fangs writing for and producing BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER alongside Joss Whedon. She also scripted the recent remake of FRIGHT NIGHT, so one would imagine as many laughs as there are chills in the upcoming OUIJA.
The film is yet to find a studio to call home, but financial backers Hasbro are clearly committed to the project, as hiring a writer of Noxon’s calibre would indicate. They did the same for the movie of MONOPOLY, which has Ridley Scott attached to produce and is being penned by writing duo Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander (ED WOOD, MAN ON THE MOON).
Like THE MUMMY, OUIJA will be a supernatural adventure concerning a family who must deal with the chaos released by an Ouija board. But unlike THE MUMMY, it will not feature Rachel Weisz in glasses. Dag nab it.
John is a gentleman, a scholar, he’s an acrobat. He is one half of the comedy duo Good Ol’ JR, and considers himself a comedy writer/performer. This view has been questioned by others. He graduated with First Class Honours in Media Arts/Film & TV, a fact he will remain smug about long after everyone has stopped caring. He enjoys movies, theatre, live comedy and writing with the JR member and hetero life partner Ryan. Some of their sketches can be seen on YouTube and YOU can take their total hits to way over 17!
