Angelina Jolie To Direct Her Own ‘Hurt Locker’

Following in the footsteps of directors such as Kathryn Bigelow (THE HURT LOCKER) and Paul Haggis (IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH), Angelina Jolie is set to direct a film based in the era of modern warfare – more specifically, in Afghanistan.

With a huge spurt of such films in recent years, it’ll be interesting to see what Jolie can bring new to the table. Though with her experience of the Afghan region, you can bet that she’ll definitely have an alternative spin on things.

Jolie travelled to the country in 2001 and again in 2008 as part of her work as the United Nations Commissioner For Refugees. Maybe she’ll use actual recorded footage taken in the country, or pay another visit using her links in the UN?

Or maybe the second half of Brangelina has her own story to tell. Perhaps this project might end up semi-autobiographical. It’s far too early to say for sure, but it’s definitely one to keep an eye on.

Jolie’s first directorial effort, IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY, also has a wartime background – this time in Bosnia – though also infuses elements of romance. The release date is to be announced, though it will enjoy a limited run in the United States starting December 23rd, in order to qualify for awards season.
