International Emmys Are A Hit For The Brits

After THE KINGS SPEECH crushed all in its wake at February’s Academy Awards, last night saw the British contingent reap more success with the International Television Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

Julie Walters saw her BAFTA winning portrayal of the late Labour politician Mo Mowlam garner her another award for best actress for Channel 4’s MO.

Former Doctor Who, Christopher Eccleston, received the best actor award for his work in Jimmy McGovern’s BBC series ACCUSED. The show also walked away with the award for best drama series.

GARETH MALONE GOES TO GLYNDEBOURNE was awarded best arts programme while the BBC Three production THE WORLDS STRICTEST PARENTS won the best non-scripted category.

Former Pop Idol Judge, now AMERICAN IDOL producer, Nigel Lythgoe was also awarded an honorary lifetime award at the glitzy ceremony.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
