Mickey Rourke Muses On Sin City 2

Mickey Rourke’s volatile relationship with the character of Marv, from the SIN CITY franchise, has been a bone of contention for him since starring in the first film six years ago. The former professional boxer took some time out of his busy schedule in order to reveal his feelings towards the anti-hero, and to talk about the possibility of his reprising the role. When asked whether or not he would consider returning, he replied:

“It depends… it depends on how bad they want me. You feel me?”

He went on to describe his mixed feelings towards stepping into Marv’s – presumably gigantic – shoes.

“I did [like the character], but I’m claustrophobic, so the the hours of makeup — You have to keep it on for about 13 or 14 hours a day. It’s latex and glue and that stuff that gets my eyes all red…”

He then proceeded to highlight the qualities in Marv that he does take enjoyment from, and what made the character stand out from some of the other, less refined, villains he has portrayed…

“I try to find the moments where [the villain is] not that cliched, evil bad guy and it’s a big fight,” he explained. “I had it on ‘Iron Man’ and they won. It was going to work for Marvel and them breaking [Jon] Favreau’s balls and wanting just a one-dimensional villain. The performance and all the things that I tried to bring to it end up on the f—ing floor. That can cause you not to care as much. To not to want to put that effort in to try and make it an intelligent bad guy or a bad guy who is justified in what his reasons are.”

The actor’s next project to hit UK cinemas is IMMORTALS, in which he plays the titan, King Hyperion. The film is released on November 11th.

Martin has been a film buff (or geek, if you prefer) for as long as he can remember. However, he lives and longs for storytelling of all kinds, and writes across numerous mediums to feed his insatiable appetite. He lives in north-west London, and his favourite films are, possibly: PAN'S LABYRINTH, THEY LIVE, PSYCHO, HIGH FIDELITY, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, STAND BY ME, SIDEWAYS and OFFICE SPACE.
