After the lacklustre last Bond adventure QUANTUM OF SOLACE, the 007 franchise has had a bumpy ride to finally get (officially) movie number 23 underway. MGM’s recent troubles causing the movie a number of delays and even at one point shut down completely.
The announcement that Sam Mendes will helm what is still an unconfirmed title of SKYFALL has been seen as a great choice from fans. The director has already gathered together a cracking cast along with the returning Daniel Craig and Judi Dench with Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Naomie Harris joining the party. Now the film has added the brilliant Albert Finney in the role of M’s superior.
The veteran actor of more than 50 years experience saw Hollywood give him a new lease of life after an Oscar nominated performance in 2000’s ERIN BROCKOVICH lead to roles in TRAFFIC, BIG FISH and BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU’RE DEAD. Finney is also set to reprise his role of Dr. Albert Hirsch from THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM for its Damon-less follow-up THE BOURNE LEGACY.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
