In 1984 a young animator named Tim Burton made a short for Walt Disney, it went by the name of FRANKENWEENIE and at the time they panicked before its release because they found it too dark and strange to release, they also fired the talented Mr Burton as, we’d assume, they didn’t know how he’d fit into their team. However, all the past has been brushed aside and next year will see the release of the feature film fully backed by Walt Disney and Burton’s production company.
FRANKENWEENIE tells the story of a young boy named Victor and his absolute love for his dog Sparky. Unfortunately, one day an accident takes the life of Sparky to the great farmyard in the sky. However, Victor has other plans and uses his science kit to bring the young pup back from the dead. Not only does it mix the Frankenstein legend but it also taps into that basic true story of a relationship between a kid and his first pet and we can expect this to get a whole lot darker, weirder and inventive.
So far we only get to see Sparky ‘before’ rather than after…and also a sneaky glimpse into Victor’s lab, where the change begins…
FRANKENWEENIE features the voice talents of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara and Martin Landau. It is due for release 5th October 2012.
