Stiller To Direct The Mountain

Ben Stiller is possibly the most wanted man in show business at the moment. Not only has he got two acting roles in the pipeline (WHILE WE’RE YOUNG and NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH), but he is about to direct and star in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER SMITTY, and has his name attached to produce HOLLYWOOD RENEGADE; a documentary about the life of controversial novelist and screenwriter, Budd Schulberg.

It is no surprise then that the hot commodity has been drafted in to direct the forthcoming 20th Century Fox flick, THE MOUNTAIN. The script, which has been written on spec by Helen Childress, will be developed by Stiller before shooting begins. He will also produce the film alongside his Red Hour partner, Stuart Cornfeld.

The story is set in the early 1900s and revolves around a young woman who struggles to confront her destiny after stumbling upon a mysterious object. The object soon forces her to examine the secrets of her past.

THE MOUNTAIN has been described as a sophisticated horror; similar in tone to ROSEMARY’S BABY. Stiller has been stepping out of his comfort zone of comedy more frequently of late, and will hopefully show us what he is capable of with this intriguing story.

Martin has been a film buff (or geek, if you prefer) for as long as he can remember. However, he lives and longs for storytelling of all kinds, and writes across numerous mediums to feed his insatiable appetite. He lives in north-west London, and his favourite films are, possibly: PAN'S LABYRINTH, THEY LIVE, PSYCHO, HIGH FIDELITY, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, STAND BY ME, SIDEWAYS and OFFICE SPACE.
