AN EDUCATION actress Carey Mulligan has landed the role of female lead in the Cohen Brothers’ next feature INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS. Joel and Ethan Cohen are writing and directing the project alongside producer Scott Rudin, with whom they previously worked on NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and TRUE GRIT.

Oscar Isaac will star alongside Mulligan, portraying a musician struggling for notoriety in the 1960s New York folk scene. The pair recently appeared on-screen as husband and wife in Nicolas Winding Refn’s DRIVE.

Mulligan is also rumoured to be signing up to an untitled Spike Jonze project, written by BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and upcoming FRANK OR FRANCIS scribe Charlie Kaufman. The actress would share the screen with Joaquin Phoenix in a film about ‘world leaders uniting to discuss cataclysmic events’.

2011 has been a busy year for Mulligan, with the actress appearing in DRIVE, SHAME and shooting THE GREAT GATSBY for a 2012 release. INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS is expected to begin filming in February, with the untitled Jonze project beginning in Spring.
