Mark Romenek To Tackle Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol?

Director Mark Romanek is ready to take over from Ron Howard to direct Dan Brown’s next Robert Langdon adventure THE LOST SYMBOL. Sony Pictures has been interviewing potential candidates with Romanek leading the way. The ONE HOUR PHOTO director is now favourite to helm the latest sequel to the blockbusting franchise after previous director Ron Howard opted out, but will remain on producing duties alongside partner Brian Grazer.

If Romanek does take charge, it will be interesting to finally see what he could do with a substantial budget after citing the old chestnut ‘creative differences’ as the reason for leaving THE WOLFMAN only days before shooting began. His last film, the fantastic NEVER LET ME GO featured a very intriguing yet controversial subject matter. The incredible performances made it one of the most gripping viewing experiences and certainly had me engrossed throughout even when in all honesty there was very little, in terms of action happening on screen.

THE DAVINCI CODE and ANGELS AND DEMONS have grossed well over $1.2 billion collectively and remains a major money-maker for the studio even if there was a steep decline at the box-office for ANGELS AND DEMONS.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
