It seems gangsters are back in vogue with Ruben Fleischer’s GANGSTER SQUAD and Barry Levinson’s GOTTI slated for release next year, but IN THE DUST may be the most outlandish idea yet for a film project that features organised crime.
The idea is based on an the as-yet-unreleased graphic novel of the same name. IN THE DUST is set in depression-era Chigago and will pit a top lawman having to team-up with what is left of Al Capone’s henchmen to battle Vampires in the windy city. It sounds like a inspired idea that might just turn out brilliant if done correctly. Robert Rodriguez pulled off a similar feat with FROM DUSK TIL DAWN, creating an enjoyable film that saw a kidnap thriller turn into a fight to the death with the creatures of the night.
The graphic novel by George Mahaffey and Christian Duce has been picked up Solipsis Films with Mahaffey expected to adapt the screenplay. No word yet on a director or cast.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
