The Hollywood Reporter has an interesting analysis of the enduring popularity of one Mr Tom Cruise. In this article one new piece of casting news pops up.
Cruise is in talks to play the lead in the ‘big-budget sci-fi war pic’ ALL YOU NEED IS KILL (or possibly titled, WE MORTALS ARE). The film is set to be directed by Doug Liman (FAIR GAME, JUMPER) which is adapted from a Japanese manga by Hiroshi Sakurazaka and Yoshitoshi Abe. Here’s the manga synopsis:
When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armour and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. On the 158th iteration though, he sees something different, something out of place: the female soldier known as the Bitch of War. Is the Bitch the key to Keiji’s escape, or to his final death?

So its a bloody, war torn, version of GROUNDHOG DAY. The film is looking at a 2013 release but if your a fan of Cruise you won’t have to wait that long as the actor has another four blockbusters out before with, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL, ONE SHOT, ROCK OF AGES and the untitled Joseph Kosinski (TRON LEGECY) film. So is Cruise’s star on the rise again after a number of disappointing box office results or is this the death rattle of star power? I’m hoping on the latter.
Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
