Deadline have the exclusive that Paul Feig (BRIDESMAIDS) has stepped back from helming the third in the BRIDGET JONES franchise.
It has been reported that Paul Feig and Universal Pictures/Working Title have amicably parted ways after studio and director agreed that a production quintessentially British needs someone at least semi British to direct. The void of a director will not last long as the film is looking to head into principle photography in the new year with all the major players, Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Huge Grant all looking to return.
The original film, BRIDGET JONES’S DIARY was adapted from the novel of the same name by Helen Fielding pulling in over half a billion worldwide. At the start of the year the author dropped a few hints concerning the new installment with Bridget having a mid-thirties baby crisis. It is unknown, however, if this would be the main plot in either the book or film.
Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
