The wonderfully diverse and eclectic Kline (A FISH CALLED WANDA, I LOVE YOU TO DEATH) has signed up to join Charlie Kaufman (SYNECHDOCHE, NEW YORK) to work on his new feature film, FRANK OR FRANCIS, which is due to begin shooting in January next year. In an outlandish move, that is somewhat typical of Kline, he has signed up to take on two roles in the same story.
The film is a satire of Hollywood set to music, and follows the textual war between a movie director and an online blogger. Kline has agreed to portray the director’s brother, as well as an animatronic disembodied screenwriting head. The director will be played by Steve Carrell, and Jack Black will star as the blogger, while Nicolas Cage’s name has also been attached to the project; though it is unclear in what capacity as yet.
Anthony Bregman, who has worked alongside Kaufman several times in the past (on projects such as SYNECHDOCHE, NEW YORK and ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND), will produce the film, and WME will be packaging it.
THN expects a collaboration between Kaufman and Kline – two of the industry’s most innovative thinkers – will yield fascinating results. It is unlikely, however, that we will see these results until 2013.

Martin has been a film buff (or geek, if you prefer) for as long as he can remember. However, he lives and longs for storytelling of all kinds, and writes across numerous mediums to feed his insatiable appetite. He lives in north-west London, and his favourite films are, possibly: PAN'S LABYRINTH, THEY LIVE, PSYCHO, HIGH FIDELITY, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, STAND BY ME, SIDEWAYS and OFFICE SPACE.
