Helen Mirren Confirms Her Role In Red 2

Mirren, who briefly discussed the prospect of RED 2 on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ last night, seems to be the only name to have addressed the possibility of returning for the sequel. No other stars have been confirmed as yet, and even director, Robert Schwentke, seems unlikely to retake the helm; he has other commitments for next year, including the filming of R.I.P.D (Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Bacon and Jeff Bridges). However, with no replacements having been announced, it is possible that he will try and fit the production into his hectic schedule.

Although Mirren told Jonathan Ross ‘We’re doing Red 2 next year’, she did not go into much detail, suggesting that many of the key decisions are – as yet – unmade.

Jon and Erich Hoeber penned the script for the first effort, which was an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name (written by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer). It is believed that the screenplay for RED 2, however, will be an original offering.
