Cliff Robertson, the actor who most recently played the role of Uncle Ben in Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN has passed away at the age of 88. The actor died at Stony Brook University Medical Center on Long Island on Saturday (10th September, 2011) from natural causes.
His daughter Stephanie Saunders released the following in a statement.
“My father was a loving father, devoted friend, dedicated professional and honorable man.”
“He stood by his family, friends, and colleagues through good times and bad. He made a difference in all our lives and made our world a better place. We will all miss him terribly.”
Robertson’s career spanned over 60 years with it peaking when he received an Oscar for his role in the film CHARLY. The actor played the part of a mentally challenged bakery worker who is the subject of an experiment to increase human intelligence.
He became more well known more recently for aforementioned role as Uncle Ben Parker in Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN.
