Featurette: Slow-mo boxing in Real Steel

Here’s what is probably the first of many featurettes for the 70’s/80’s ‘game’ Rock Em Sock Em or more commonly known as REAL STEEL now. The new featurette delves slightly behind the motion capture aspect of the film.

The film looks like it could be interesting and fun but will hopefully hold a surprise or two as all the clips and trailers looks to have shown us every moment of the film.

A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near future [the year 2020], where the sport of boxing has gone hi-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

The film stars Hugh Jackman (X-MEN), Evangeline Lilly (LOST), Kevin Durand (X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE), Anthony Mackie (THE HURT LOCKER) Hope Davis (SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK), Dakota Goyo (THOR) and directed by Shawn Levy (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM).

REAL STEEL is out October 14th 2011

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
