Ron Howard casts his female lead in the F1 movie, Rush

Variety are reporting that Alexandra Maria Lara has joined the cast of the Peter Morgan scripted, and indeed Ron Howard directed RUSH, the interesting Formula One themed biopic that revolves around Austrian racing driver Niki Lauda.

According to the trade, the film “follows Lauda and [fellow F1 star James] Hunt’s 1970s rivalry on the Formula One circuit. Lauda nearly died in a fiery crash in 1976 but returned to the track just six weeks later to race Hunt.”

Chris Hemsworth is playing Hunt, while INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS star Daniel Bruhl is set to play Lauda.

German actress Lara is set to play an unspecifed lead female role. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard produce, alongside Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and Cross Creek Pictures’ Brian Oliver.
