Mark Wahlberg goes head to head with Russell Crowe

No this won’t be the dream fight of THE FIGHTER vs CINDERELLA MAN, even though it would be funny to see Marky Mark beat on a 90 year old Crowe. It is actually a noir drama named, BROKEN CITY.

The film stars Wahlberg as an ex-cop who now operates as a private investigator who is hired by Russell Crowe, the Mayor. Crowe believes his wife to be cheating on him and gets Wahlberg to collect evidence. But, as with all good noirs, all is not as it seems and the anti-hero spirals into the ‘scandalous affairs’ of the shady Mayor.

The script, written by Brian Tucker, featured on the same Black List as THE BEAVER, which may not bode well from the film as what started as a very promising script produced a less than entertaining film (I’m blaming the production process not the writer or script). Also against the film is it’s director, Allen Hughes, who was once a fine director with MEANCE II SOCIETY, who has only been able to create some good visually rather than a good story as of late, see THE BOOK OF ELI as an example.

But I have high hopes as I am a soft spot for noirs, unless its THE BLACK DAHLIA.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
