According to Deadline, Tom Cruise has signed on the dotted line to star as Jack Reacher. The character comes from a series of novels written by Lee Child. ONE SHOT – set to be produced by Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions – is adapted from Child’s ninth book, and if successful, could likely lead to further Jack Reacher films.

The story follows a military sniper accused of five murders. He protests his innocence and asks for assistance from Jack Reacher, an ex-military investigator. Reacher soon realises that there are unseen forces at play, and so begins a ruthless battle of cunning.

ONE SHOT will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie and will begin shooting later this year.
