Major breaking news now. Variety are reporting that Spike Lee, he who brought us the likes of DO THE RIGHT THING, MO BETTER BLUES and JUNGLE FEVER, as well as the superb , and indeed more recent INSIDE MAN, has signed up to direct the American remake of the South Korean movie OLDBOY.
The trade says that the original story ‘revolves around a man who’s kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years. When he’s finally released and begins looking into the reason for his captivity, he soon finds out that his kidnapper has even more torturous plans for him.’
Steven Spielberg was once attached to direct the film with Will Smith in the lead, but now that Spike has the megaphone surely it’s only a matter of time before Denzel Washington signs?
Mark Protosevich wrote the script for the film, which is housed over at Mandate Pictures.
