It looks like Guillermo del Toro’s next film will not be AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS over at Universal Pictures after all, but will be a new film called PACIFIC RIM, based on a script by Travis Beacham. Deadline describe the project as a pole-sized project with big monsters and the creation of a new world, aimed at a PG-13 audience.
After digging a little further, we discovered that the film will start shooting as early as this December, which is great news for del Toro after first of all leaving THE HOBBIT project, and then having issues with AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, which is reportedly over the $150 million budget and heavy ‘R’ rating. The word is that del Toro may return to do ‘Madness’ after PACIFIC RIM, but the studio have to be confident in the film, which is described as more ‘horror’ than ‘action,’ and one that would have recoup $500 million at the worldwide box-office.
