Will Superman kneel before Viggo?

With Henry Cavill being named as the men strapping on the red cape in Zack Snyder’s SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL, the directing is now looking to snap up an actor for the role of Zod.

Appartently topping the list for both Snyder and the film’s producer, Christopher Nolan, is Viggo Mortenson. There is one thing in the way though as Mortenson is still in negotiations for the role of The Huntsman in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN. If Mortenson decides not to star alongside Kristen Stewart in one of the many Snow White retellings then I’m sure he will take up the role.

For those unfimliar with the villainy that is General Zod he is a character that has been around the Superman comics since the early Sixties. He was the military leader of Superman’s home planet, Krypton, but was later imprisoned in the Phantom Zone by Jor-El, Superman’s daddy. The character rose into popular culture through the Richard Donner 1980 Superman sequel with the legendary line from Terrence Stamp; “KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!”.

Now I love Terrence Stamp as Zod so I think Mortenson has BIG shoes to fill but he could do it.  I mainly because I trust Christopher Nolan’s instinct probably the most out of any filmmaker around.

Snyder is still keeping his options open at the moment as he continues auditioning other actors for the role. Synder is also looking for three female roles, presumably for Lois Lane, Ursa (Zod’s right hand) and either Martha Kent, Lana Lang or Cat Grant.

SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL is looking to be out December 2012.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
