Colin director Marc Price heads to Japan

It’s the latest chapter of a growing success story for Swansea’s own Marc Price.

It started back in the early 00’s when Marc made several short films which blended science-fiction, fantasy, horror and a dark sense of humour. Nowhere Fast, one of the titles of the short films, was to become the name for his production company as he sought to move forward. Working full-time in a courier firm, Price started work on what would be his breakthrough. Colin.

Colin tells the story of the eponymous character as he slowly turns from human to zombie, having been bitten before the film has begun. As he grows increasingly inhuman, clinging on to the memory of his girlfriend, his family try to come to terms with the birth of a monster. They greet it with denial, horror and a bitter acceptance.

Colin was made for approximately £45.00 and shot entirely on a video camera anybody could pick up from a local store and use. Surprisingly, when it premiered at Abbatoire Film Festival in 2009, it was picked up by sales agent Helen Grace who structured a campaign at the Cannes Film Festival. Whilst there it screened twice, first for a few people in a converted office and the second time in a sold out screening at one of the main theatres.

Price was overcome and Colinsoon made the rounds on the UK cinema circuit, earning it’s budget back and just a little bit more. You might think it easy to make £45.00 back but when you consider marketing costs incurred by the distributor, fees and then a million other overheads; it’s not a bad little feat for such an iddy biddy movie. Shot on location across Tooting in 2008, Colin has now secured a limited theatrical release in the United States and Price is currently in Japan on a promotional tour for the release of the film there.

Big News.

Two distributors have put in bids to distribute the film in the country and it looks certain to gain a cinema release there sometime soon.

Apparently it’s becoming quite a big deal, there’s leaflets, one sheets, screenings and all the interviews he can fit in the day. Price has tweeted regularly on the promotional tour and uploaded photographs to his account. You can follow Marc on twitter at @Marc_V_Price and he updates regularly on the promotional tour.

In other news, the movie he’s currently in post-production on is due to be released later this year. The project, tentatively titled The Coffin, follows a group of friends who steal a coffin and embark on a road trip. No doubt it will be another mixture of bloody good fun, tinged with a dark and systematic sense of humour.

It’s amazing where a little cash can get you.

I’d bet thats the best £45.00 he’s ever spent.
