iPark Chan-wook

Everyone’s favourite Korean filmmaker behind films such as OLDBOY and THIRST, Park Chan-wook has Apple fever.  The acclaimed director has recently completed a 30 min short filmed entirely on an iPhone 4.

PARANMANJANG, co-filmed with his brother Park Chan-kyong featuring a man’s travel from this world to the next with shamanistic exorcisms and weird aliens to boot.  It’s a first for a lot of reasons, not just being the first film shot on the iPhone its also the first film to be funded by iPhone distribution company, KT and the first that will have a full theatrical release on January 27th 2011 in America.

Here’s what Park had to say about the iPhone over at Yahoo;

“The new technology creates strange effects because it is new and because it is a medium the audience is used to…There are some good points of making a movie with the iPhone as there are many people around the world who like to play and have fun with them. Compared to other movie cameras, the iPhone was good because it is light and small and because anyone can use it,”

So if Park Chan-wook is able to use an iPhone then so can you. So get out there and start making movies, of course you don’t have the 150 million won (£85,000) and some of the best actors around with Oh Kwang-rok and Lee Jeong-hyeon. But don’t let that stop you.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
