Real Steel Stills and Trailer

REAL STEEL is the first of many coming Hollywood films to be adapted from board games such as BATTLESHIPS and MONOPOLY.  Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Huge Jackman it tells the story of a failed fighter who in the future, where human fighting is now illegal, battles robots in underground fights.  Jackman‘s character is looking to buy a robot that is supposed to be unbeatable but is broke after a string of loses.   An opportunity comes to earn some cash by looking after a child which he does.  Of course this seemingly mean spirited man who is obsessed with winning ends up having a shot at the big time and will only possibly win in partnership of the child which ends up acting as a surrogate son.

The film is suppose to delivery the same emotional high points of sport films such as ROCKY and COOL RUNNINGS (ok maybe not that last one) even with the fighting being between robots.  But I feel that the film may end up too cuddly and family friendly since it is directed by Shawn Levy best known for DATE NIGHT, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM(s), THE PINK PANTHER and CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN.  But from the look of the stills and trailer, the mix of CGI and real props for the robots the film might end up being really fun.

The film is released 7th October 2011. Below are the trailers and stills that have been released.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
