We are kicking off awards season here on The Hollywood News right now with news and a fantastic video for this past weekend’s British Independent Film Awards, which took place at a glittering ceremony in central London. James Nesbitt, he who has just been confirmed to be starring in the new film version of THE HOBBIT, hosted the eventing which celebrated the best of indie British Film.
The big winner on the night was the critically acclaimed THE KING’S SPEECH, which picked up Best British Independent Film, Best Screenplay for David Seidler, Best Actor for Colin Firth, Best Supporting Actor for Geoffrey Rush and Best Supporting Actress for Helena Bonham Carter. It was also a great night for Gareth Edwards, whose brilliant low-budget film MONSTERS bagged him Best Director, Best Acheivement In Production and Best Technological Acheivement (for Visual Effects). Wow!
