Saw 3D slices through UK cinemas and breaks records while it’s at it

Just got this fantastic confirmation that SAW 3D is officially the biggest ever in the franchise’s history, taking a whopping £3.3 million over it’s first weekend in the UK.

This weekend SAW 3D sliced franchise records, opening at number one in the UK box office. Taking an estimated £3.3million (an estimated $5.3million) from 383 cinemas, the latest instalment has proved to be the most successful ever, earning a 30% higher opening weekend than any other in the franchise’s history.

SAW 3D’s UK figures also mark the largest opening weekend of an 18 Certificate horror movie ever, a record previously held by “Scary Movie” (released 2000). These figures also rank SAW 3D as the 6th highest UK opening for an 18 certificate movie in history.

The seventh instalment of the Guinness World Record breaking horror franchise opened in cinemas across the UK on Friday 29th October taking £1.2million (an estimated $1.9million) from 383 UK cinemas smashing previous opening day takings for the franchise also.

The SAW franchise once more sets an industry record by being the first theatrical feature to be shot exclusively on the cutting-edge SI-3D digital camera system. SAW 3D brings the horrifying games of Jigsaw to life like never before, psychologically testing the viewer as Jigsaw does his victims. By adding another sensory dimension to the already overwhelming experience of viewing any SAW film, SAW 3D truly pushes the boundaries. The film stars Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell, with Sean Patrick Flanery, and Cary Elwes. SAW 3D is directed by Kevin Greutert, written by Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan, and produced by Gregg Hoffman, Oren Koules and Mark Burg. SAW 3D is a Lionsgate Release.
