Sir Ian McKellen has reportedly told The Bolton News in the UK that he will definitely be back in the role of Gandalf for the planned film version of The Hobbit and that “the aim is to start filming in January.” Now this news has not been confirmed by the studio, or indeed anyone from the actor’s camp. Heck, this film is still officially without a director.
The Hobbit will be split into two films, which will be shot back-to-back, and the word is that The Lord Of The Rings helmer Peter Jackson MAY direct. That’s a big MAY though. Casting rumours have started to heavily hit the web, so expect a big announcement from MGM, New Line/ Warner Brothers very soon. For the full Bolton News article, hit this link.
FILMING on The Hobbit, the long-awaited prequel to The Lord of the Rings, should start in the new year, according to former Bolton School boy Sir Ian McKellen.
“The aim is to start filming in January,” he said.
The actor is slated to reprise his role as the wizard Gandalf, for which he received two Oscar nominations, but has said he wouldn’t be “sitting waiting” for shooting to start.
