The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog reports that none other than British actor Michael Caine has joined the cast of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, the sequel to the hit Journey To The Center Of The Earth.

The film is being directed by Brad Peyton, and sees Caine portray the grandfather of Josh Hutcherson‘s character, and ‘sees the actor in action mode, engaging in several chase sequences, including one involving giant bees.’

The flick is loosley based on the book ‘Mysterious Island‘ by Jules Verne. Dwayne Johnson also stars.

Shooting will take place later this year in Hawaii and North Carolina.
