Warner Bros 150x150 Warner Brothers spending $200 million on The Battle of MidwayWarner Brothers Pictures are planning a hefty $200 million budgeted film based on a World War II themed pitch from Bruce C. McKenna (The Pacific, Band of Brothers), entitled The Battle of Midway.

Deadline are reporting that the film will be shot in 3D, and would be about the June 4-6, 1942, turning point of the war. McKenna is expected to turn in a script for the proposed movie in just eight weeks.

We have seen the famous battle immortalised on screen before, in a 1942 film directed by John Ford, and a 1976 version that starred Charlton Heston.

Akiva Goldsman‘s Weed Road are producing.

About the Author

- Paul has been writing for film websites for over ten years. The Hollywood News was born out of love for film and his frustration at not being a very good filmmaker himself. Those who cannot do, write about – or so they say. Aside from the site, Paul has directed a music video (badly), has one credit to his name on the IMDb, enjoys running, driving (now that he has finally passed his test at the age of 33), and of course going to the movies.

It may have been a turning point, but the really big battle that seemed to end the Japanese naval power was really two years later in the Philippine Sea. Many more ships and planes and a truly devastating US victory (The Great Marianas Turkey Shoot). I’d like to see that Battle made into a movie.
