hannibalbluraycollection.jpgColin J reviews the very first Lecter movie on Blu-Ray.

Though it didn't perform particularly well in 1986, Manhunter earned greater prominence after the success of 1991's Silence of the Lambs. The two projects share the same writer - Thomas Harris - and a few characters. Most prominent among these is the infamous Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter, the role made immensely famous by Anthony Hopkins in Lambs.
Drew Barrymore stepped out on the red carpet last night for the Hollywood premiere of her directorial effort WHIP IT. Yep, Barrymore joined her god-daddy and E.T. director Steven Spielberg for the shin-dig, along with Ellen Page and a whole host of other celebs. Here are a few of the pics, courtesy of phun.org. More at the end of that link.

halloween-3d-shut-down.jpgAccording to a couple of Internet websites, pre-preproduction has officially halted on Dimension FIlms' planned HALLOWEEN 3-D.  A new version of the film's script was apparently turned in last Friday by Todd Farmer, but now Bob Weinstein of Dimension Films feels the project is being rushed, hence the stopping of production.

Director Patrick Lussier has an apparent short window to shoot the film before he starts work on the Nicolas Cage starrer DRIVE ANGRY early in 2010.
roger-avary.jpgRoger Avary, who co-wrote the 1994 Tarantino movie PULP FICTION has been sentenced to one year in jail following a conviction for causing a fatal traffic crash in Southern California. On top of that, he has also received five years of probation. The Associated Press report the facts via ComingSoon.net.
Thumbnail image for fantasticfox.jpgThe new trailer for the Wes Anderson film THE FANTASTIC MR FOX, a film based on the clasiic Roald Dahl story, is online.

The film features the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Wally Wolodarsky, Eric Anderson, Michael Gambon, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson, and even Pulp's Jarvis Cocker.

Mr and Mrs Fox (Clooney and Streep) live an idyllic home life with their son Ash (Schwartzman) and visiting young nephew Kristopherson (Eric Anderson).  But after 12 years, the bucolic existence proves too much for Mr Fox's wild animal instincts.  Soon he slips back into his old ways as a sneaky chicken thief and in doing so, endangers not only his beloved family, but the whole animal community.  Trapped underground and with not enough food to go around, the animals band together to fight against the evil Farmers - Boggis, Bunce and Bean - who are determined to capture the audacious, fantastic Mr Fox at any cost.

See the trailer in Quicktime here.
milla_resident_evil.jpgThe next RESIDENT EVIL movie, RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE has kicked off shooting in Toronto, Canada. Screen Gems announced the shoot in a release.

Actress Milla Jovovich returns as the zombie-fighting heroine Alice. Ali Larter reprises her role as Claire Redfield from Resident Evil: Extinction. Spencer Locke, who played K-Mart in "Extinction," is also set to return. New to the film franchise is leading man Wentworth Miller, who has signed on as Chris Redfield - Claire's brother and a popular character from the game series. Shawn Roberts will take over the role of Alice's nemesis Wesker. Boris Kodjoe and Kim Coates have also been cast.

Paul WS Anderson will be writing, directing and producing the movie, which means that he takes the reigns for the first time since the 2000 original. It also means that he is directing his new bride Milla in the flick... The new film will be shot and released in 3-D.
scarlett-glamour.jpgScarlett Johansson has spoken about joining the 'Boy's Club' on her recent movie gig, the forthcoming sequel to IRON MAN. Telling Entertainment Weekly, Scarlett, who plays Black Widow in the film, said what it was like shooting the film earlier on in the year.

"You're dealing with some sensitive men here," she said.

"I mean as much as they're guys'-guys, I think Jon [Favreau, director] is a big softy and Robert [Downey Jr. - Tony Stark/ Iron Man] certainly embraces his theatrical side."

"It was, yes at times, a little bit of a boys' club but I think I imbued enough femininity to quiet them down a little."

They also have video over here.

Scarlett also hits Glamour magazine's November issue:

pe-bd.jpgOne of my favourite films of this year is the Johnny Depp/ Christian Bale starrer PUBLIC ENEMIES, which was released in the summer. I had the excellent opportunity to sit in the same room as both Johnny Depp and director Michael Mann earlier on this year after watching the film for the first time myself. It really is one of the best of the year.

Review: Black Dynamite

Adam Mast reviews BLACK DYNAMITE.

black-dynamite-trailer.jpgBlack Dynamite is part parody and part loving homage to the blaxploitation films of the 70's. The film features a hilariously brilliant turn by Michael Jai White as the title character, a tough as nails urban hero who spends his days keeping the streets clean and romancing the ladies.

jennifers_body_megan.jpgAdam Mast reviews the horror that stars Megan 'the body' Fox.

Following an Oscar win for her Juno screenplay, Diablo Cody went on to create The United States of Tara, an immensley entertaining HBO show that just earned star Toni Collette an Emmy. How do you follow that? With a horror movie of course.

Dicaprio lined up for a Deep Blue Goodbye...

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Thumbnail image for dicaprio-scorsese-island.jpgVariety are reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio has found his next movie, and is in fact attached to star in THE DEEP BLUE GOODBYE.

The trade says that DiCaprio is in line to play Travis McGee, a self-described beach bum who lives aboard 52-foot houseboat the Busted Flush and alleviates his cash-flow problems by hiring on as a "salvage consultant." He recovers property for clients, taking a hefty percentage and getting into a lot of danger and romance in sun-drenched Florida.

Peter Chernin will produce alongside Appian Way's DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran, so says Variety.

20th Century Fox is behind the adaptation of the John D. MacDonald mystery novel series of the same name.

michael-jackson-movie.jpgAccording to sources this morning, tickets are selling out at an alarming rate for MICHAEL JACKSON'S THIS IS IT, which hits cinemas internationally on October 27 for just two weeks only. One LA venue sold out of 3000 tickets in less than two hours. Tickets for the highly anticipated movie based around the London O2 concert rehearsals accounted for nearly 80% of ticket sales in the US since they went on sale at the weekend.

The  film has sold around 30,000 advance tickets across the Vue cinema chain in the UK.

What's the betting that Sony extends the run? Or rush out the DVD for Christmas? What do you guys think?

More Scarlett Johansson Mango shoots

I have absolutely no idea as to how old these promo images of Scarlett Johansson are, and in fact we don't care so much as they are 100% smoking hot! I have a feeling that they are a brand new set promoting a Mango range of clothing and they are listed as 2009 over at phun. We like them a lotty.

george_clooney.jpgWe loved the film CONTROL. You know, that Joy Division film from last year. So much, despite its doom and gloom. Former photographer Anton Corbijn was always destined to go on to fry much bigger fish, and here's the news that he has just literally kicked off shooting his new film with non other than A-listed gorgeous George Clooney.

The film is THE AMERICAN and is based on the 2005 book A Very Private Gentleman by Martin Booth. Clooney stars in the lead role as an assassin. Roland Joffe adapted the novel. All of the info can be found via the lengthy press release, which we have posted after the jump.

Seyfried reveals all to Showbiz Spy, and referring to said on screen kiss (which we're desperate to find a screen-grab of) the MAMMA MIA star said:

"It was difficult to do," said Seyfried. "I was uncomfortable, because I normally kiss men."

Debra Winger demands for Polanski's release

| 13 Comments | No TrackBacks
Thumbnail image for polanski.jpgAs you saw on the site in a post late last night, film director Roman Polanski has been arrested on 30 year old rape charges in Switzerland this past weekend (read more about that here). In follow-up news today it seems that Polanski is all set to fight and extradition moves put forward by US authorities.

According to Daily Variety, Polanski's French lawyer said ealier on Monday that the director would fight extradition as the arrest has 'spiraled into an international incident, with France announcing it had appealed to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for his release.'

Polanski has lived in Paris and avoided countries with extradition agreements with the U.S. since being charged in 1977 for having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

Meanwhile, Zurich Film Festival jury president Debra Winger on Monday demanded the release of Polanski from jail in Switzerland.

Jennifer Aniston's tears over Brad Pitt

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Jennifer Aniston still cries over her ex, Brad Pitt. That's according to reports from the set of her new movie THE BOUNTY, in which she stars opposite Scot star Gerard Butler. According to sources on the set of the New York set film, an assistant saw Aniston in tears inside her trailer when he went to call her, so says the New York Post.

The source added that Aniston allegedky told the assistant: "I need a moment. This scene reminds me of Brad and me".

"While she enjoyed flirting with Gerard on set and put a brave face on every day, privately she is still very fragile," the source added to the newspaper..

We must add that Aniston's rep has rsince ubbished the story and said it is 'ridiculous . . it never happened.'

Meanwhile, here's Ms. Aniston in PINK magazine, which we think is a Russian publication.

Megan Fox kicks off the news season of SNL

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Saturday Night Live kicked off a new series in the US on Saturday night and one Megan Fox was the guest host on the show. The JENNIFER'S BODY and TRANSFORMERS star hammed it up on the comedy show this weekend alongside new cast members Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad

EW.com has the skinny:

Whether by her choice or the show's, Fox was used primarily as -- well, as a body. She matched Wiig's Southern accent in the early flight-attendant sketch, and did some nice acting opposite Will Forte in a well-written Digital Short that was primarily a showcase for Forte's beautifully calibrated sensitive-nerd SWAT team leader. But in playing a beautiful Russian bride, a cynical chat-line spokesmodel, and a curvy stooge for Kenan Thompson's terrific Grady-Wilson-teaches-you-sexual-positions commercial, Fox was fine, but she didn't really stretch her comedy muscles.

Roman Polanski arrested in Switzerland

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Film director Roman Polanski has been arrested in Switzerland on rape charges dating all of the way back to 1978. Popeater has the news...

polanski.jpgPolanski, now 76, pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with a 13-year-old in 1977 in the United States, but fled the country before he could be sentenced and a warrant for his arrest was issued in 1978. He had been living in France ever since.
leaf-men.jpgChris Wedge and Blue Sky are set to bring a new animated film called LEAF MEN to screens over at 20th Century Fox.

Variety says that the film, an adaptation of the William Joyce illustrated children's book "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs," was originally set at Fox Animation by Wedge, his "Robots" cohort Joyce and screenwriter Jim Hart before getting into a tug-of-war with Disney's Pixar.

Wedge directs the new film. The helmer found success with the original ICE AGE and then ROBOTS.

Stanley Tucci goes Burlseque

stanley-tucci.jpgStanely Tucci will star opposite the likes of Cher and Christina Aguilera in BURLESQUE, which is to be directed by Steve Antin.

Variety reports that Aguilera plays an ambitious small-town girl with a big voice who finds success in a neo-burlesque club reminiscent of the nightclub in Bob Fosse's "Cabaret." Tucci will play the manager of the Sunset Boulevard club and the best friend and confidante of Tess (Cher), a former dancer who takes the young girl under her wing. The movie marks Cher's first movie starring role in a decade.
We all love a bit of Jennifer Love Hewitt and here is a bunch of screen grabs from the hot actress appearing on Ellen in the US. The actress told Ellen about her love of the TWILIGHT saga and in particular that of the film's star Robert Pattinson, who plays vamp hunk Edward..

"I love Edward, I really do," she told host Ellen. "My dream is just to carry Rob Pattinson's luggage through the airport. I just want to carry his luggage, get him a sandwich - whatever he might need.

"I mean, he watches Bella [his character's love interest] sleep. He wants to live with her forever. Oh, I love him!"

Here's Jennifer wearing some awesome kinky boots on the show...

The studio has made a deal with Mattel to build a live action film around its signature toy line. Studios are placing a premium on building films around well-known concepts. Universal brass feels it has landed the queen of globally branded toy figures.

Laurence Mark will produce.

DVD Review: Observe and Report

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
oandrdvd.jpgColin reviews the DVD for OBSERVE AND REPORT.

On paper, 2009's Observe and Report looked like a stinker. It came from writer/director Jody Hill, the "mastermind" behind the awful Foot Fist Way, it starred the seriously overexposed Seth Rogen, and it featured a plot that seemed like little more than a rehash of Paul Blart: Mall Cop. How could it not suck?
The headline says it all. The wife of one lucky Ben Affleck is starring in Ricky Gervais's directorial debut THE INVENTION OF LYING, which hits cinemas very soon.

As the event photographers captured the moment, they started yelling for Jennifer and Ricky to pose together as Jane (Falllon - Ricky's girlfriend) looked on. It was a funny sight as Gervais was eating up all the attention. While posing and hearing the photographers yelling, Ricky shouted back, "Shut up! Shut up!" as he kept laughing.

The film takes place in an alternate reality in which lies and lying does not exist. Everyone tells the truth includling politicians and everyday people without knowing what the consequences are. Mark Bellison played by Ricky Gervais develops the ability to lie and experiences the rewards of dishonesty.

Actor Johnny Depp is apparently refusing to commit to starring in the fourth PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movie, according to reports today. Depp announced PIRATE OF THE CARIBBEAN 4 alongside recently fired Disney chairman Dick Cook at the D23 expo a couple of weeks ago.

pirates-4-depp.jpg"There's a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment... It was all born in that office," Depp said referring to a verbal agreement he made with Cook about the new flick. It seems that he only agreed because of his friend's (Cook) involvement.

JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT

More after the jump...

The weekend box-office figures are in and Sony's new animated film CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS entered the chart at the top spot. The film pulled in a huge $30.1 million, but the haul isn't as much as the studio wanted. The flick, according to the Los Angeles Times, is the studio's third animated outing, and its take was essentially on par with its first release, 2006's OPEN SEASON . The paper noted that given three years of ticket price inflation and the fact that the majority of "Cloudy's" theaters played the movie in digital 3-D, which brings a ticket-price surcharge. OPEN SEASON opened with $23.6 million.

cloudy-with-a-chance-of-meatballs.jpgAnother disappointment was the Megan Fox starrer JENNIFER'S BODY, which only managed a number five position with $6.8 million in takings. That was beaten by this week's other new release LOVE HAPPENS, the Jennifer Aniston starrer, which bagged position four with $8.4m in green.

We have the chart in full below...

1. 'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs' - $30,100,000

2. 'The Informant' - $10,545,000

3. 'Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself' - $10,060,000

4. 'Love Happens' - $8,456,000

5. 'Jennifer's Body' - $6,800,000

6. '9' - $5,458,000

7. 'Inglourious Basterds' - $3,603,000

8. 'All About Steve' - $3,400,000

9. 'Sorority Row' - $2,489,000

There is no doubting at all that FAST AND FURIOUS star Jordana Brewster is hot, and she's not in nearly enough for our liking. Here's the latino actress turning up for the Entertainment Weekly Women in Film Party this past week in Hollywood.

Fashionistas had a field day just watching the show go by, as everything from evening gowns (Jordana Brewster went for floor-length white) to cute cocktail dresses to a gaggle of lipstick lesbians all dolled up and holding hands with their macho, menswear clad partners.

DVD Review: Deadgirl (2008)

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Colin J reviews the horror flick.

deadgirl-dvd.jpgEven after all these year, PR hype can still influence me. Before I received the press release for 2009's Deadgirl, I knew nothing of it. However, references to it as "groundbreaking" and a movie that "made headlines around the world" enticed me. Worst case scenario: I get a review out of it!
Here's your daily dose of Megan Fox news as the starlet attends the premiere of her new film, the shocker (as in horror) JENNIFER'S BODY.

The super-soar-away Sun reports.

The actress upset the crew of Transformers after criticising director MICHAEL BAY and they branded her "dumb as a rock".

But what she lacks in brains, she makes up for in beauty as she showed at the premiere of Jennifer's Body, pictured. In the film I hear she has a lesbian kiss with co-star AMANDA SEYFRIED.

Hero begins 2000 years ago, with a lone man on his way to visit with the King of China's Qin province during the height of the warring states period. The King has been leading a bloody campaign trying to unite the whole of China and bring peace to the county, and his aggressive tactics aren't exactly a big hit with the entire population.

matt-eastwood.jpgMatt Damon is set to be directed by Clint Eastwood (again) in the new movie HEREAFTER. Eastwood will direct and produce, but it is not known as to what the story revolves around. The word is that it is Clint's first foree into the supernatural genre. Peter Morgan (THE QUEEN) wrote the screenplay.

What is cool, is that Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall are executive producing, along with Morgan and Tim Moore.

Jennifer Aniston is 40 years old, but look at the hot set of pins on her. Here she is attending the premiere of her new movie LOVE HAPPENS in Hollywood earlier on this week.

Fox News reports from the event:

Drawing even more attention than her bitty belly were the sexy toned legs beneath that sequined mini. Which she was all to happy to talk to Pop Tarts about.

"It's a team of people! I really am physical everyday, it keeps all of the pistons firing," Aniston recently told us. "Being physically in shape is important, especially when you have to sometimes work 13-16 hour days."

Here's Nataline Portman attending the press conference at TIFF for her new movie LOVE AND OTHER PURSUITS. At the conference, the actress stated that her future in the 'biz' was in a little bit of doubt.

She told the Press Association:

"I do not know if I want to work, I do not know if I will be able to work,"

Asked to expand why she felt unable to commit to being in films in 10 year's time, Natalie explained: "I said I do not know because I feel month-to-month I change so much... it is hard to project."

Adam Mast reviews the Mike Judge movie.

extractmovie.jpgExtract, a word described as "a solution or preparation containing the active principles of a drug". "Extract" the movie starring Jason Bateman, opened yesterday with movie goers interested if Mike Judge prepared "his" solution well. Mike Judge who is a known for being a driving force in creating "Beavis & Butt-Head" (MTV, 1993-97) - and also the modern film classic, "Office Space" opened this comedy with great comedic characters; Some believable some not.

Here's the lovely Jennifer Garner rocking up for the premiere of her new movie THE INVENTION OF LYING at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The film is the directorial debut of Ricky Gervais and is  set in a world where no one has ever lied, until a writer seizes the opportunity for personal gain. It opens of October 2.

Vannessa Hudgens is not up for nude movie roles

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL star Vanessa Hudgens appears in the October edition of Allure magazine. In the mag Hudgens talks about, among many other things, going nude for a film role.

"Whenever anybody asks me, would I do nudity in a film, if I say that it's something I'm not comfortable with, they're like, 'Bullshit, you've already done it.' If anything, it makes it more embarrassing, because that was a private thing. It's screwed up that someone screwed me over like that. At least some people are learning from my mistakes." She said, referring to those infamous images that hit the internet all those months ago. Here are a couple of pics from the Allure shoot.

Megan Fox branded a grump

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Megan Fox appeared on The Today Show in the US erm, yesterday (Sept. 14). She discussed various things on the show, one of them being the supposed letters from crew members on TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, who branded her the grump of the set. Apparently.

"She's as about ungracious a person as you can ever fathom. She shows little interest in the crew members around her. We work to make her look good in every way, but she's absolutely never appreciative of anyone's hard work. Never a thank you," One crew member said.

Oh dear. Megan is on the promotional trail for her new film JENNIFER'S BODY, which opens later this month. She presents Saturday Night Live this coming weekend where the subject is bound to come up. Here are some images of Ms.Fox arriving at The Tonight Show studios.Pics fom phun.

michael-bay-bad-boy.jpgIt looks like Michael Bay is meeting up with his TRANSFORMERS producer Steven Spielberg and screenwriter Ehren Kruger about a possible third movie in the franchise. The director updated via his official website. The site editors updated with the following:

* He will be meeting later this week with Steven Spielberg, and Ehren Kruger to discuss ideas for Transformers 3. By the end of the week he should have an idea if Transformers 3 will hit your local cineplex in the summer of 2011 or 2012.
* In the meantime "Pain & Gain" is looking very possible as is...
* ...Bad Boys 3. Either film coming to a theater near you before or after Transformers 3.

Steven Spielberg has told Variety that he is still moving forward with his Abraham Lincoln film despite the news that Robert Redford is bringing his own 'Lincoln' movie in the form of THE CONSPIRITOR to screens.

steven-spielberg.jpgThe Peter Bart blog at Variety reports:

Spielberg tells me, "We are very happy that Redford will be doing this Lincoln movie. It is completely different from what our DreamWorks Lincoln movie will be and we believe that it will add to the commercial potential of our film. Lincoln as a subject is inexhaustible."

Redford's movie, "The Conspirator," focuses on a young woman charged with conspiring to kill Lincoln. It's being funded by a company headed by Joe Ricketts, who professes to be a history buff.

Spielberg's Lincoln yarn reportedly was to focus on the President's anguish over the length and toll of the Civil War. His script  is being revised by Tony Kushner.

Hollywood tributes pour in for Patrick Swayze

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Tributes have been coming in for the late US actor Patrick Swayze, who yesterday lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.

swayze-roadhouse.jpgHis co-star in the classic 1980's film DIRTY DANCING, Jennifer Grey said: "Patrick was a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace. Gorgeous and strong, he was a real cowboy with a tender heart.

"He was fearless and insisted on always doing his own stunts, so it was not surprising to me that the war he waged on his cancer was so courageous and dignified."

Rob Lowe, who also appeared with Swayze in the eighties added: "Patrick lived a thousand lifetimes in one lifetime. He was an expert dancer, he wrote hit songs, he starred in hit movies, he was an amazing horseman.

"But the thing I will remember him most for was his amazing love affair with his wife Lisa."

Demi Moore, who starred with him in the award winning GHOST in 1990 said: "Patrick you are loved by so many and your light will forever shine in all of our lives."

She added: "I love and will miss you Patrick."

Ditto.

Patrick Swayze passes away at the age of 57

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Patrick Swayze, the man who immortalised Johnny Castle (DIRTY DANCING), Sam Wheat (GHOST) and my favourite, Dalton (ROAD HOUSE), has passed away after a near two year battle with pancreatic cancer. The actor, survived by wife Lisa, was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer in January 2008. His last role was the lead in an A&E TV series, The Beast, which premiered on January 15, 2009. Due to a prolonged decline in health, Swayze was unable to promote the series, and on June 15, 2009, Entertainment Tonight reported that the show had been canceled.

PatrickSwayze.jpgSwayze appeared in early 1980's flicks THE OUTSIDERS and YOUNGBLOOD, but it was the low-budget 1987 film DIRTY DANCING that made his name. The film, which was originally intended to play for just one weekend on its initial cinema release before going straight-to-video, went on to make well over $300 million since it first debuted. It has spawned a sequel, a musical and is even set to be remade in 2010. After DIRTY DANCING, Swayze went on to make the classic ROAD HOUSE, the Golden Globe nominated GHOST in 1990 opposite Demi Moore and then the actioner POINT BREAK a year later. His film credits continue with the likes of TIGER WARSAW, RED DAWN, 11:14, FATHER HOOD, BLACK DOG and even the classic DONNIE DARKO.

He will be missed, but his films will always live on. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Cloudy With A Chance of... Anna Faris

Here's SCARY MOVIE star Anna Faris arriving for the Los Angeles premiere of the new film CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS, which took place on Saturday.

More pics here.

Meanwhile Phil Lord and Chris Miller spoke with the LA Times about their project, which opens everywhere on Friday (Sept. 18th).

The original book had only a spare story, so Miller and Lord created a plot involving a struggling young inventor (voiced by Bill Hader) who discards his malfunctioning water-to-food machine only to discover it works all too well when the skies spill all manner of edibles. His creation seems a boon to his struggling hometown, as well as to a weathergirl with larger aspirations (Anna Faris), until things go haywire.

"Animation is just another way of telling a story," said Miller of how they've bounced between live-action and animated comedy. "The medium is less important than the story we're trying to tell and the funniest way to tell it. Animation is awesome because there's a really bold type of comedy you can get away with that you couldn't get away with in live action, a broader, campier style."

It seems that all that I have posted over the last few days is entry after entry covering the new season of DOLLHOUSE, starring Eliza Dushku, which is just about to kick off in the US.

This site's main man got a look at episode one of the new series, and got to speak to the show's creator Joss Whedon.

I've seen the first episode of the new season, and I'll write more about it soon. But, very briefly, it plays to Eliza Dushku's strengths as an actress, it has Jamie Bamber (from "Battlestar Galactica") in a good guest performance, it has some interesting clues and development and particularly great material for Fran Kranz (Topher) and Amy Acker (Dr. Saunders/Whiskey).

More at the end of the link. We, however, scored a look at four posters promoting the new season of the show.

DVD Review: Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

Colin Jacobson reviews the Matthew McConaughey chick-flick on the home format.

gogp.jpgIf there's a less ambitious actor in Hollywood than Matthew McConaughey, I can't think of him. McConaughey seems to play nothing more than cocky studs in romantic comedies. Even when he broadens slightly into more action-oriented movies such as or Sahara, he continues to take on parts in which he a) comes across as arrogant and self-absorbed, and b) takes off his shirt a lot.
i-can-do-bad-all-by-myself.jpgI cannot say that I am the biggest Tyler Perry fan, but you have to hand it to the dude, as he has another massive hit, and US number one movie on his hands. His flick I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF made $24 million over the weekend, easily securing the top spot ahead of the animated fare 9, which scored a rather disappointing $10.8 million. Tarantino's INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS held on to the number three position this week, adding another $6,5 to its total. The film is easily over the $100 million mark in total now.

The other two big new releases disappointed further, with SORORITY ROW and WHITEOUT making just over $5 million each. The top ten is printed in full below...

1. 'Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself' - $24,030,000

2. '9' - $10,856,000

3. 'Inglourious Basterds' - $6,546,000

4. 'All About Steve' - $5,800,000

5. 'The Final Destination' - $5,500,000

6. 'Sorority Row' - $5,268,000

7. 'Whiteout' - $5,100,000

8. 'District 9' - $3,600,000

9. 'Julie & Julia' - $3,300,000

10. 'Gamer' - $3,150,000

GI JOE actress Sienna Miller is thinking about moving to the US. The star, who graces the October issue of Vogue magazine (see below) said:

"I think you always have an affinity with the place where you were born... (I) love any excuse to be in New York," Contactmusic quoted Miller as having told Gotham magazine.

"It's such an amazing, exciting vibrant place to be... I think I'm going to fall so in love with being in New York that I probably won't leave when we finish the play," she added.

She appears on Broadway in the August Strindberg classic, alongside Jonny Lee Miller, which is set to begin previews this month.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star Teri Hatcher has successfully completed the 2009 Nautica Triathlon in Malibu. The actress underwent months of training for the annual Californian event.

She recently revealed that doing the triathlon was on her 'bucket list' of things to do before she dies.

The former Superman star, who plays ditzy Susan Mayer in Desperate Housewives, has set up a fundraising website www.teamhatcher.org and is hoping to raise $10,000.

Frequent visitors to The Hollywood News will know that I am currently about half-way through the first season of Joss Whedon's superb DOLLHOUSE, which stars Eliza Dushku. The review is coming people!!! The second season is actually being shot on the streets of Los Angeles as I type this and this site has bagged some pics of Ms. Dushku on set. On one of them it looks like she's a bit bored and having a bit of a yawn... or erm, simulating something else. You'll see what I mean...

According to Fox News, actress Rose McGowan lost part of her elbow whilst in-training for her new role as the title character in the RED SONJA remake.

rose-re-elbow.jpg"I had wrist and elbow surgery and they took part of my elbow out. I had really bad nerve damage from doing stunts - I do a lot of my own stunts," McGowan recently told Tarts. "I could no longer use my arm, but now I can hold a fork and drive so we're working our way up. It'll probably be another six months of rehab, but It's the price you pay for being really limber and being able to do back flips!"

The news site says that production was brought to a standstill, though principal photography has not yet started. The word is the shoot will be put back for at least six months. More here.

"Luminous. Compassionate. Intelligent." Said Ellen of Drew. The two were apparently summing each other up using just three words. See?

The two met at the infamous Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. Page added:

"It was a surreal moment for me... You could just feel her warmth and kindness immediately, and the way she carried herself was just so grounded. "So then it was like: 'Oh, this is going to be great'. And then it went into: 'Oh my God, I'm really crazy about this person.' "It just grew and grew and grew and grew and grew."

WHIP IT hits cinemas later in the year.

More SEX AND THE CITY 2 set pics, this time featuring Samantha Jones herself, Kim Cattrall, who seems to be having a little bit of trouble with an NYC driver. The film is currently shooting all around the city for a summer 2010 release. Click through for bigger versions at their site.

gi-joe-rise-of-cobra-review.jpgBetter late than never, here is our man Adam Mast's review of GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra marks the second film based on a Hasbro toy line this summer, and I'm happy to report that this one is better than the other one. Why? Well, for two reasons. Firstly, G.I. Joe is forty minutes shorter and secondly, its more family friendly. Still, saying G.I. Joe is better than Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is faint praise at best.

Did DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM already come out in theaters? No? Who knows, but the film will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in the UK in October.

The official press release says that the flick will actually play in a few UK theaters a week before this hits the shelves on 26th October, 2009.

d13-u.jpgDirected by Patrick Alessandrin, the film is set three years after the events of the first movie, and it appears that despite government promises nothing has changed in District 13, the racially charged ghetto notorious for its gangs, drug dealers and killers. A consortium of corrupt cops and government officials is conspiring to cause civil unrest within D13 with a view to finding an excuse to raze the area and cash in on its redevelopment. When a local kid accidentally uncovers the plot, the district's resident idealist Leito (Belle) and elite law-enforcer Damien Tomaso (Raffaelli) are reunited in a bid to bring peace to the troubled neighbourhood and to expose the conspiracy before a proposed air-strike can destroy the area Leito calls home.

Priced at £15.99 RRP on DVD and £24.99 RRP on Blu-ray Disc, extras include a 'Making of' documentary, Production Diary and Deleted scenes.
rambovsavagehuntposter.jpgAccording to the folks at Aint It Cool News, the recent info that was provided for the plot for the planned RAMBO 5 was, well, way off. The trades said that the new movie "revolves around Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border." Wrong according to Sly himself, this is what the plot will go like!

New Regency and David Friendly are attached to repeat their producing duties from the first two pics.

It has not been mentioned as to whether Martin Lawrence will return as 'Momma' or not.

Helmer Guy Ritchie is to direct LOBO, a feature adaptation of DC Comics drama about an alien interstellar bounty hunter. The film is set up at WB with Joel Silver's Silver Pictures and Weed Road.

Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona will produce. Don Payne wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lobo has had several comic incarnations. In the film, he is a seven-foot tall, blue-skinned, indestructible and heavily muscled anti-hero who drives a pimped out motorcycle, and lands on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc. Lobo teams with a small town teenaged girl to stop the creatures.

The character first featured in 1983 in Omega Men, written by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen. The new film will be aiming for a PG-13 rating.

Carrie_Bradshaw-and-Mr-Big.jpgSEX AND THE CITY 2 has officially started shooting. Filming on the sequel to the hit of 2008 has kicked off on the streets of New York City with Sarah Jessica Parker back in the role of Carrie Bradshaw, looking far from fabulous. In fact, the actress is being compared to a young Barbara Streisand. Chris Noth, aka Mr Big was also spotted shooting scenes with Parker.

The Telegraph reports:

For one scene, thought to be a flashback to Carrie's arrival in New York, she sported a Streisand-esque perm and off-the-shoulder sweatshirt.

Later, she was back to her stylish self in a white Halston dress and glittering Christian Louboutin stilettos, teamed with a gold Chanel clutch bag.

The Blu-Ray Review: Goldfinger (1964)

Colin Jacobson reviews the James Bond classic in HD.

goldfinger.jpgFor my money, Bond never got any better than Goldfinger. The series got bigger and flashier, but no film ever portrayed the fun, action, and danger, and the high-tech nuttiness of the world of James Bond any more perfectly than this 1964 classic. This was the film that convinced me that Sean Connery was unquestionably the best Bond ever.

Review: The Final Destination

FinalDestination4.jpgThe Master reviews the 3D fourth-quel!

In retrospect, The Final Destination 3-D really isn't a very good movie. In fact, its actually quite mediocre. Maybe a little bad, even. The thing is, I saw a screening of this film less than an hour after enduring Rob Zombie's Halloween 2, so I actually enjoyed myself more than I probably should have.

Review: Halloween II

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
halloween2_2.jpgAdam Mast reviews Rob Zombie's sequel to his reboot.

Perhaps the worst thing about this terrible sequel to a pointless remake is that somewhere, buried deep within, writer/director Rob Zombie actually had some interesting ideas to explore in Halloween 2. Ideas that are so minimally explored that they're not even strong enough to be considered afterthoughts.
favs-downey.jpgIRON MAN helmer Jon Favreau and IRON MAN star Robert Downey Jr. are to make the long-gested COWBOYS AND ALIENS together. Favs will direct and Downey will star.

The sci-fi Western explores what would happen if the traditional Old West enemies -- cowboys and Native Americans -- found the prairie attacked by aliens in mid-1800s Arizona, so says The Hollywood Reporter.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who are executive producers on the project, are scripting, along with LOST exec producer Damon Lindelof.

Favreau is just finishing up on IRON MAN 2, which is now possibly coming to us in glorious 3D. AinitCool.com had the scoop. Read more about is after the jump.

Review: Shorts

shorts-by-robert-rodriguez.jpgAdam Mast reviews the latest Robert Rodriguez flick.

Its quite odd that on the very same day Inglorious Basterds was released, Warner Brothers opted to release the family friendly fantasy film Shorts from director Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez and Tarantino are not only longtime pals, but they've also collaborated on much edgier fare (Sin City, From Dusk Till Dawn, Grindhouse, etc.). Talk about your strange counter programming scheme.
Lionsgate has set an April 16 release date for the Matthew Vaughn movie KICK-ASS, an adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s comic boo of the same name. The studio picked up the rights to the completed movie about a month ago.

kick-ass-movie-release.jpgToday the studio confirmed that Sylvester Stallone's THE EXPENDABLES, co-starring Jason Statham, Jet Li and Mickey Rourke, has been put back four months to August 20, 2010. All together now...Awwwwww.

Fox to reboot the Fantastic Four franchise

fantastic-four.jpg20th Century Fox are looking to reboot their Marvel movies series FANTASTIC FOUR, according to Variety. The studio will reignite the franchise with Akiva Goldsman producing and Michael Green (HEROES) writing the new screenplay.

The first two films starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis as the four heroes. No word as yet if any of them will return.

The trade says Fox controls the "Fantastic Four" movie franchise in perpetuity -- as long as it continues making the films. Marvel is a producer and financial participant through a licensing agreement.
