descent-part2-poster.jpgHere's a look at thequad poster for the upcoming horro sequel THE DESCENT: PART II, which is directed by the original film's editor Jon Harris. Neil Marshall, who helmed part one, serves as executive producer on this one.

Emerging from the cave system alone, distraught and covered in the blood of her missing companions, Sarah is incoherent and half-wild with fear. Sceptical about her account of events and convinced Sarah's psychosis hides far darker secrets, Sheriff Vaines (Gavan O'Herlihy) doesn't waste time. Along with his partner Rios (Krysten Cummings), and their cave rescue team Dan (Douglas Hodge), Greg (Joshua Dallas), and Cath (Anna Skellern), Vaines forces Sarah back into the caves to help the rescuers find her friends.

Shauna Macdonald reprises her role as Sarah. The film opens on 4th December in the UK.

As we predicted last week, Quentin Tarantino's INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS made a whole heap of money at the US box-office over three days, taking a huge $37m. Well, the Brad Pitt starring WWII movie did well in the UK two, easily topping the box-office for its first few days.

'Basterds' took three times as much as it's nearest rival, the big-screen version of the book THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE, which scored just under GBP1m (compared to IB's GBP3.5m). Positions three and four were made up by two animated fares in the form of G-FORCE and ALIENS IN THE ATTIC. HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE is a stayer too, making another GBP598,335, securing it the number five position.

All in GBP:

1 Inglourious Basterds - 3.5m
2 The Time Traveler's Wife - 915,751
3 G-Force - 654,909
4 Aliens In The Attic - 642,522
5 Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince - 598,335

The BBC reports:

The 20-year-old R&B star pleaded guilty in June to beating Rihanna, his former girlfriend, before the Grammy awards in Los Angeles in February.

The judge said Brown must do physical labour, not community service, and attend domestic violence counselling.

Brown must also stay at least 100 yards from Rihanna for the next five years.

BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD creator Mike Judge has suggested that he might be up to make a sequel to the duo's first big-screen outing.

Judge spoke to Collider:

"I like to keep the door open on Beavis and Butt-Head, because it's my favourite thing that I ever done. It's the thing I'm most proud of."

He added: "Another movie... the problem is it takes a year and half, two years, two and a half years - maybe - to do that right. And that's a pretty strong level of commitment. I'm going to look at that again. That comes up every three years."

WANTED helmer Timur Bekmambetov has revealed to MTV that he wants Angelina Jolie to come back for the sequel to the 2008 visual-fest. Odd, considering what happened to her.

The Russian director told MTV:

"If you remember from the first film, we have a recovery room with the baths of wax," Bekmambetov told MTV News. "We know how to do this, but it's still tough to do, because the bullet is inside her head."

"But there has to be a reason for her to come back... and we know the reason," he added. "I think we found the reason for her to come back."

The sequel is apparently set to start shoothing this winter.

The word over at Aint It Cool News is that Warner Bros. and director Christopher Nolan already have plans for a follow up to THE DARK KNIGHT, and plan to make the third film in the franchise in entirely in the IMAX format.

The THIRD chapter of Christopher Nolan's Caped Crusader's saga could very well be FULLY shot in IMAX, not IMAX Digital - but the beautiful, stunning IMAX that we saw pieces of THE DARK KNIGHT in.

Now this is something that I'm sure a lot of you will feel is a no-brainer. Nolan blew us away with the IMAX sequences in that film - but it was a very tough process to work in. Mainly due to the limitations of how many available real IMAX rigs there are. Not only that, but lenses had to be created, adapted and god forbid one broke down. Part of the reason that Nolan went forward with INCEPTION first - besides taking a creative break from the cape and cowl adventures... was possibly to create a few new IMAX cameras made to his specs. Once again - the cost of shooting an entire feature film on IMAX... the stock, the time it takes to reset, to load, to move the cameras... Well... it is daunting, but as Nolan proved with DARK KNIGHT - the difference is stunning.

Michael Jackson's death was homicide

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
The death of Michael Jackson exactly two months ago to the day has been ruled as a homicide. The Los Angeles Coroner's office has just released information relating to his autopsy, which wasn't made available until now. TMZ reports:

Michael Jackson had lethal levels of Propofol in his system when he died, this according to a search warrant affidavit filed in Houston. Dr. Conrad Murray told cops he had been treating Jackson for 6 weeks for insomnia -- giving him 50 milligrams of Propofol every night through an IV. Murray told cops he feared Jackson was getting addicted so he reduced the dosage to 25 mg. The morning Jackson died, Dr. Murray gave Jackson valium at 1:30 AM. Murray said the valium didn't work so he gave the singer an IV injection of lorazepam -- an anti-anxiety drug. Murray told cops Jackson was still awake, so he then gave him midazolam -- a sedative. Murray gave Jackson more drugs. He says at 10:40 AM, he administered 25 mg of Propofol. Dr. Murray told cops Jackson repeatedly demanded the drug. As we first reported, cops found 8 bottles of Propofol in Jackson's house after he died, but they do not know where it was purchased.

GOOD is directed by Vicente Amorim and features electric performances from Viggo Mortensen, "outstanding" The Hollywood Reporter, (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Eastern Promises, A History of Violence), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter franchise, Peter Pan, Event Horizon) and Jodie Whittaker (Venus, St. Trinian's).

hendrix-legendary.jpgLegendary Pictures are planning to make a biopic based around the life of the legendary Jimi Hendrix. Variety reports the news that the script for the Hendrix film is being written by Max Borenstein, the guy behind WHAT IS LIFE WORTH, a fact-based script about a attorney Kenneth Feinberg and his work on the 9/11 victims compensation fund.

Hendrix struggled as a musician for much of the 1960s, until he left for Europe and made his mark. He returned to the U.S., and as evidenced by filmed performances at fests like Woodstock, Monterey Pop and Isle of Wight, Hendrix changed the game, from his technique to his fashion sense and theatrics that included lighting guitars on fire and smashing them onstage. He flamed out not long after reaching icon status, as his death in 1970 came just three years after the release of the first Jimi Hendrix Experience album, "Are You Experienced."

The story revolves around a soldier called Old Fred who meets up with the Beatles and travels in a yellow submersible to Pepperland. Among the group's encounters are the Blue Meanies, music-hating creatures.

Production Weekly broke the news via their Twitter page, which read:

Lionsgate is developing a remake of the 1987 classic "Dirty Dancing," from a new script by Julia Dahl.

The original, which starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey was
made for just $6 million but went on to earn a massive $213.95 million worldwide. It spawned a sequel, DIRTY DANCING: HAVANA NIGHTS, which was made for $25 million, making just $27.7 million worldwide.

THN Review Feature: Inglourious Basterds

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
iblogo.jpgI am trying to remember the first time that I saw a Quentin Tarantino movie. It was his debut RESERVOIR DOGS, and I first saw it at a late night screening session at my local multiplex in either 1993 or 1994. The movie had been denied a video release in the UK, so film chains like Odeon and I think Virgin Cinemas at the time, took it upon themselves to show the film late at night to a nation of filmgoers who literally couldn't get enough of this exciting new filmmaker. Then, just a couple of months later PULP FICTION arrived on the scene, and that movie changed everything. The film won the Palme D'or, and the following year garnered a few Oscar nominations to boot. I fell in love with the film, and could not wait to get back to the cinema to see it again the following weekend.

Then came JACKIE BROWN in 1997, a film that, while not really disliking it, felt that it didn't quite live up to the man's previous two bohemoths. Then, after a long break, came KILL BILL, parts one and two, which out of the two, I prefered the second one, and then last year's GRINDHOUSE flick DEATH PROOF, which actually turned out to be a non-event over here in the UK really. So, Quentin had to get movie with another project. After lackluster box-office success with GRINDHOUSE, and a critical mauling, the director had to amp it up and deliver the goods. And quick.

Well, quick he was, and with a period of just over nine months since completing the screenplay, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS was debuting at the Cannes Film Festival, and competing for the Palme D'or, exactly 15 years after Pulp scored the big one in 1994. Expectations were high...

Lionsgate wins the battle to Kick Ass

Lionsgate will distribute the Matthew Vaughn movie KICK ASS in North America after a battle between three studios to grab the rights. The film will now receive a wide release in 2010.

kick-ass-vaughn.jpgThe film is about a comics-obsessed teenager who decides to become a real-life superhero, Kick-Ass, despite a decided lack of superpowers. It is based on the comic book by WANTED creator Mike Millar. Vaughn wrote the script with Jane Goldman (they last collaborated on STARDUST).

Paramount, Fox and Universal were also in the running to distribute, but the word is that Lionsgate won the battle with a package worth around $45 million. Wow!

4-brewsters-millions.jpgWarner Brothers are remaking the classic Richard Pryor movie BREWSTER'S MILLIONS, and have hired Michael Diliberti and Matthew Sullivan to write it.

The film will actually be based on the original source material, the 1902 novel George Barr McCutcheon. The book first became a play back in 1906, and has been turned into a film no less than seven times, the 1985 Pryor comedy being one of them.

The story centers on a man who inherits $1 million from a rich grandfather. When a rich uncle who hated the grandfather also passes away, the will leaves the young man $7 million -- but under the condition he spends the grandfather's million within a year and not end up with any assets from the spending spree.

The new version revolves around two friends who form a justice league of comic geeks to plan and execute a daring heist at Comic-Con in order to save their beloved neighborhood comic shop from the clutches of an evil corporate takeover.

pitt-sherlock.jpgHere's one that has literally come from nowhere. It seems that Guy Ritchie is/has brought on his SNATCH main man Brad Pitt to star as the villian Professor James Moriarty in his Warner Brothers based SHERLOCK HOLMES movie.

Britain's Daily Mirror reports:

"It was an oversight in the film not to make a bigger deal about Moriarty. He is mentioned as Holmes' arch enemy, but the bosses wanted Guy to make more of him," a source told the newspaper.

"Jude Law (who plays Dr Watson) and Robert Downey Jr (Holmes) have already shot their scenes. But now that 10 extra days have been added to shoot the new ones, they may be called back for a day or two."

The film is due out in the fall of 2010.

Highsmith is reponsible for the stories THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY and STRANGERS ON A TRAIN. Penhall adapted Cormack McCarthy's THE ROAD, which is due out next year. It stars Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron.
spiderman-movie.jpgJames Vanderbilt, the man who was the first to tackle a script for SPIDER-MAN 4, has been hired by Sony Pictures to pen SPIDER-MAN 5 and SPIDER-MAN 6, according to reports. The two movies are said to have an interconnected storyline.

David Lindsay-Abaire and Gary Ross rewrote Spidey 4, which is set to go into production early next year with Sam Raimi once again directing.

The trade said that it was unclear as to whether Raimi and actors Kirsten Dunst and Peter Parker himself Tobey Maguire would be back for 5 and 6, but if not, the Vanderbilt script would act as a blueprint for a series reboot.

Best Bollywood Film Oscar?

bollywood-film.jpgJust recieved the following press release. Thought it was interesting. Kinda agree...

Hindus have asked American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to introduce a new award category of "Best Bollywood Film" for films made in India.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that India had the largest film industry in the world and thus it deserved at least one category in Oscars where its movies could compete among themselves. This gesture would bring more credibility to Oscars also in the international arena, as it was long overdue.

go-blu-ray.jpgColin Jacobson reviews the 1999 PULP FICTION wanabee.

If you look up "1990s" in the dictionary, Go might be the movie pictured there. With its story of a particular party culture, it just screams "Nineties" to me - or at least "second half of the Nineties". Whether or not it still holds up a decade later remains to be seen.

To stave off eviction, Ronna (Sarah Polley) works shift after shift as a grocery clerk. To make money, she picks up more time from Simon (Desmond Askew); he wants the time off to make his first-ever visit to Vegas. Adam (Scott Wolf) and Zack (Jay Mohr) needs drugs for an all-night rave, and they usually get their supplies from Simon.

Say what you like about Sienna Miller. She sure helped pull in the punters in GI JOE last weekend, and now the yound actress has graced the pages, and indeed cover of this month's GQ Magazine in the UK. district-9-number1.jpgThe Neill Blomkamp sci-fi-er DISTRICT 9 has taken a whopping $37 million at the US box-office in its first three days. The low budget film, produced by Peter Jackson, made the huge sum, easily fending off GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA, which made the number two position, making a little over $22 million. This week;s other new entry, THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE, adapted from the book of the same name, entered the chart at number three with $19.2 million in takings.

"Between meals on set, I'd eat a No. 1 Value Meal at McDonald's and then Doritos on top of it. It was absolute heaven."

Alex Holmes to direct DeLorean biopic

delorean.jpgAlex Holmes (BBC's HOUSE OF SADDAM, DUNKIRK) will direct a feature length film based on the life of car designer John DeLorean, according to Variety.

The DeLorean biopic, according to the trade, will tell the story of how the auto industry maverick's glamorous life came crashing down when he was caught in an FBI drug trafficking sting, only to be acquitted on grounds of entrapment.

Holmes envisions the pic as a crime thriller with a tragic hero at its heart. He wrote the script for the film with Rob Warr.

Time Inc. Studios and XYZ Films will produce.
superman.jpgThat's right, big time Hollywood studio Warner Brothers have apparently lost some right's to their big DC Comics money-spinner, Superman. The Man of Steel's co-creator, Jerry Siegel, has according to the trade, "successfully recaptured" rights to additional works, including the first two weeks of the daily Superman newspaper comic-strips, as well as portions of early Action Comics and Superman comic-books. There's more here.

The ruling is based on the court's finding that these were not "works-made-for-hire" under the Copyright Act.

This means the Siegels -- repped by Marc Toberoff of Toberoff & Associates -- now control depictions of Superman's origins from the planet Krypton, his parents Jor-El and Lora, Superman as the infant Kal-El, the launching of the infant Superman into space by his parents as Krypton explodes and his landing on Earth in a fiery crash.

bryan-singer-galactica.jpgBryan Singer has confirmed to Variety that he is in talks to produce and possibly direct a new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA movie at Warner Brothers. The news originated at HitFix.com yesterday, but we held off posting until we got the confirmation via the trades this morning.

According to HitFix.com, Singer was developing a follow-up television series based on the popular '70s sci-fi show with producer Tom DeSanto (Transformers) that was close to shooting in 2001, when it fell apart. Since then, Ron Moore successfully relaunched the series to create a show with a vocal cult audience that ran from 2004 to 2009 with plans for a spin-off show called "Caprica." The show's popularity apparently prompted Universal to reexamine the possibilities of a movie and they signed Glen Larson to write a script for a movie that had no ties to Moore's show.

Larson is still involved with the new movie as writer and co-producer. You can read more at Variety here.
last-house-blu-ray.jpgColin reviews the horror remake.

jon-heder.jpgNAPLOLEON DYNAMITE star Jon Heder is to next star in BUDDY HOLLY IS ALIVE AND WELL ON GANYMEDE, a film which is based on a sci-fi comic book by Bradley Denton.

In the film, Heder will play Oliver Vale, an average geek whose uneventful life changes when Buddy Holly turns up on every TV channel and declares that Vale is the only one who understands why this is happening -- which causes Vale to be pursued by a mob of disguised aliens.

Robert Rugan wrote the script and will direct.

christopher-mcquarrie.jpgTHE USUAL SUSPECTS writer Christopher McQuarrie is to write the sequel to X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film's story line will takes its cue from the early 1980s Chris Claremont-Frank Miller miniseries, which is set in Japan and features Wolverine dealing with ninjas as he struggles whether to follow his animal killer instincts or the life under a samurai's code of honor and respect.

Made for about $150 million, "Wolverine" earned $363.2 million worldwide. McQuarrie teamed with his 'Usual Suspects' helmer on the first X-MEN film nine years ago.

Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine/ Logan in the new film.

walkingdead.jpgVariety are reporting that THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION writer and director Frank Darabont is looking to write and direct a TV series based on Image Comics comic book series THE WALKING DEAD. Darabont is teaming up with AMC and executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert for the project.

The trade says that the story is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live.

AMC Senior Vice President of Programming Joel Stillerman told the trade that the series will stay faithful to the tone of the original novels. "This is not about zombies popping out of closets. This is a story about survival, and the dynamics of what happens when a group is forced to survive under these circumstances. The world (in 'Walking Dead') is portrayed in a smart, sophisticated way."

Microsoft responded:

We're glad there's still a lot of enthusiasm in the entertainment industry surrounding the idea of a Halo movie. That said, the Halo feature film remains on hold as we focus on projects like Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach.

Two weeks after promo footage unspooled at Comic-Con, "Kick-Ass," the Matthew Vaughn comic-book adaptation about an everyday teen who becomes a superhero, is closing in on a buyer.

Lionsgate, Paramount and Universal are in the running for the pic, which Vaughn financed independently after some studios found the project's violence too graphic and some of its dialogue too profanity-laced and opted not to board it at the script stage.

But the Comic-Con event garnered a hugely warm response from the fan universe, which has in turn helped convince the companies to reconsider. Buyer screenings followed the week after Comic-Con, and several studios began circling the pic.

Leaked footage from the special presentation of IRON MAN 2 at Comic Con in San Diego, has hit the internet. I half expected this to pretty much disappear right away, but the folks over at Joblo.com have posted it on their video site.

Watch the footage below.

Warner Brothers has announced that they will release a 70th Anniversary Edition of the classic GONE WITH THE WIND on November 17th of this year (US).

gonwith.jpgThis romantic epic arrives in a "stunningly restored and remastered version" that features a bonus disc with three new documentaries:

  • 1939: Hollywood's Greatest Year is a fascinating tribute to a year considered to be one of Hollywood's greatest. This documentary, narrated by Kenneth Branagh, had its on-air premiere in July as part of TCM's month-long festival saluting that year's 'bumper-crop' of films.
  • Gone with the Wind: The Legend Lives On is an exploration of the legacy of this most beloved film through illuminating interviews, footage and visits to historical sites, events and museums.
  • Moviola: The Scarlett O'Hara Wars -- a 1980 WBTV Special, never before seen on home video.

mark-lester.jpgMark Lester, the child movie actor turned Osteopath, is claiming to be the biological father to Michael Jackson's daughter, Paris Jackson.

Lester, whol played the title role in OLIVER! back in the 1960's, was the same age as Jackson. He said in an interview in Sunday's News of the Word:

"I gave Michael my sperm so that he could have kids - and I believe Paris is my daughter.

"It's been a secret for too long. In 1996 Michael asked me if I would give him my sperm and I said yes.

"It was a gift to him, no money was paid, it was something I was honoured to do. He wanted children so badly." He added.

"He realised having kids was a natural thing but that he just couldn't do it. I think he'd already tried using his own sperm but it hadn't worked, so I made an off-the-cuff comment saying, 'Try mine!'"

Lester said the resemblance between his own daughter Harriet, 15, and Paris has been also been noted.

kathryn-bigalow.jpgKathryn Bigalow is reteaming with her writer on THE HURT LOCKER, Mark Boal for the Charles Roven (THE DARK KNIGHT) produced TRIPLE FRONTIER.

Variety reports that that the film is described as a high-stakes ensemble project. Boal and Bigelow, who will both executive produce, sold the original idea together.

We have no idea what this will be about, but the trade adds that the film will be set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge -- making "la triple frontera" difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime.

Alex Gartner and Steve Alexander are also producing with Roven through their Atlas Entertainment.
paul-giamatti.jpgHere's a bit of a scoop for you, courtesy of The Boston Globe. The newspaper is reporting that none other than Paul Giamatti has replaced Sean Penn in the role of Larry in The Farrelly Brothers comedy remake of THE THREE STOOGES.

The paper also says that Jim Carrey will no longer be playing Curly in the film, which MGM has on it's 2010 release slate. It does add that Benicio Del Toro is still playing Moe.

Four more actors have joined the cast of the RED DAWN remake, which is set up over at MGM/UA.

just-cause-movie-game.jpgThe guys who brought the HITMAN movie to the screen, and set up future adaptation KANE AND LYNCH at Lionsgate, are looking to adapt another title for cinemas, and this time it's JUST CAUSE. Adrian Askarieh is behind the movie, teaming up with Eidos Interactive, the people that made the TOMB RAIDER movies with Angelina Jolie.

The game revolves around missions carried out by a deadly CIA black ops assassin code-named the Scorpion, who specializes in regime changes while battling pirates, mercenaries and rogue agents. The character has become iconic for his high-tech grappling hook and his penchant for BASE-jumping from high altitudes while in action.

The flick's lead role, The Scorpion, is described over at Variety as a mix of Jason Bourne, James Bond, Wolverine and Rambo, with a touch of Enrique Iglesias.
Frank_Langella.jpgFrank Langella, who wowed audiences in last year's FROST/ NIXON, and the 1980's version of MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, will have a role in Oliver Stone's WALL STREET 2: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS, according to Variety.

The trade says that Langella is in talks to play Lewis Zabel, an old-time broker who mentors LaBeouf's character, a young Wall Street broker. The mentor's fate plays a major part in the film's plot.

Stone directs the already cast Shia Labeouf and Michael Douglas, who returns to play Gordon Gekko., one of his most famous roles. Allen Loeb wrote the screenplay for the film, which is housed over at 20th Century Fox.
Nicole Eastman, who wrote the recently released THE UGLY TRUTH is adapting the time-travel drama THE TIME OF MY LIFE, by Alison Winn Scotch.

Trade paper Variety says that the novel, published last year, centers on a woman with a beautiful house in the suburbs, a loving husband and a baby girl who wakes up seven years in the past with her previous boyfriend and a chance to do her life over.

The flick is set up at Superb Entertainment and the Weinstein Co
gi-joe-movie-number-one.jpgThe weekend box-office numbers are in and, as expected, GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA hit the number spot giving Paramount Pictures their third hit of the summer. The flick, which stars Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller, grossed $56.2 million over the three days, over double the amount in green of the number two movie at the US this weekend, the fellow debuter JULIE AND JULIA., which bagged $20.1 million, a superb start for the Nora Ephron directed movie.

GI JOE does have a way to go to recoup its $175 million budget, and is getting 'okay' reviews, so we'll see how it builds and does overseas.

G-FORCE made up the top three adding another $9.8 million to its haul, while HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE made anothe $8.8 mil. Last week's numero uno FUNNY PEOPLE dropped all of the way to number five this week, with $7.8 million in the bank. Again, very disappointing for the new Judd Apatow movie.

The top ten is listed in full after the jump.
blood.jpgThe new posters for the annual SAW Blood Drives have gone online over at Yahoo! Movies.

Every year, Lionsgate gets the blood pumping for its new SAW film with the SAW "Give 'Til It Hurts" blood drive, benefiting the Red Cross. As part of that tradition, the studio produces an ad campaign starring the SAW nurse, a sexy sister of dubious mercy who wants your blood.

This year's ad campaign was created by Ignition Print and was photographed by Co-President of Marketing Tim Palen... and it's the wildest yet with the SAW nurse sporting a uniform you won't see at just any old doctor's office. That's because it's designed by the downtown NY fashion darlings The Blonds, the corset kings who have outfitted the likes of Beyonce, Katy Perry and Rihanna.

Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures have announced that the role of Kato has been cast for the upcoming Michel Gondry directed THE GREEN HORNET. Jay Chou will play the role opposite Seth Green in the movie, which will be released on July 9, 2010.

kato.jpgGondry said, "Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog! When I filmed him next to Seth, they had such great chemistry, and I knew the movie will be great."

Chou added, "It's an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee. I won't try to be Bruce Lee's Kato - I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it's a dream role, and I'm looking forward to the challenge."
steven-spielberg-halo.jpgThe word on the street is that one of Hollywood's biggest (if not the biggest) filmmakers is going to produce a big screen film based on the Microsoft video game HALO. IESB scored the massive exclusive. Check this out...

IESB has learned exclusively (believe me this is solid and I've confirmed it three times over with studio executives and our close ties to CAA) that one of the biggest producers in Hollywood history is currently in active negotiations to develop the feature film adaptation and no it's not Jerry Bruckheimer or Peter Jackson. It's the man behind Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones and Transformers, Mr. Steven Spielberg.

Spielberg is blown away by writer Stuart Beattie's take on the game in his script entitled HALO THE FALL OF REACH. This coupled with the fact that his Dreamworks umbrella is looking for a big tent pole to help launch their newly independant studio with distribution over at Walt Disney Pictures after losing Transformers to Paramount in the separation, it's the perfect combination.

James Cameron on using 3-D in his movies

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Hollywood filmmaker James Cameron has been talking about using 3-D, and says that in his films, including the upcoming AVATAR, he intends to be more consertative with the new technology. He spoke to Empire:

james-cameron.jpg

"My approach to 3-D is in a way quite conservative," he said. "We're making a two-and-a-half-hour-plus film and don't want to assault the eye every five seconds. I want it to be comfortable.

"I want you to forget after a few minutes that you are really watching 3-D and just have it operate at a subliminal, subconscious level. That's the key to great 3-D, and it makes the audience feel like real participants in what's going on."

AVATAR is in cinemas this December.
